Assalam alaykum,

I'm seriously considering having my eyes corrected through this procedure, but am still not 100% sure.

A very nice brother (May Allah bless him, he knows who he is) has given me information on laser eye surgery so I already have some scientific info etc. But I would be really interested to know about people's personal experiences.

Has anybody done the laser-eye surgery procedure? Would you recommend/not recommend it?

As far as i'm aware, it's a very safe and usually successful procedure. Around 90% success rate. Sitteh (Allahy tawwil 3umra) was very happy with hers.

Salam

I myself wanted to get this done, however just didn't get around to it. Many people in Pakistan have got this done and it has been successful. I was going to go to Pakistan to get it done as its cheaper there. I think in the UK it costs about £600 per an eye, and in Pakistan it costs abt £200 in total. I knw they have to do one eye at a time but after abt a week you will be fine.

GOOD luck

Salam Alaikoum...

I was told that its not recommended to have the  surgery done while you're young and if you're a student. Since a lot of reading and studying would be required during school, it could affect the eyes even after the surgery, meaning it will not be or stay 100% accurate. However, my friend, who's 21 just had the surgery done and Alhamdulilah it was successful although one of her eyes is still a bit weaker than the other. Perhaps it depends on your prescription and how bad your eyes might be. But in general, the new technology has proven to be successful..bass still, Allahu a3lam if there are any consequences or side effects behind the procedure.

Assalam alaykum,

Thank you so much for those links bro, they were excellent, especially the first one.. it gave me a lot of info. And Allahi tawwil 3emra la settak :) I'm hoping to do it when I'm about [edit] inshaAllah...  ^_^ I'm already excited! Imagine me, able to see (without my glasses/contacts) my mama, baba, bro's and sis without them looking fuzzy   LOL... inshaAllah inshaAllah inshaAllah!

I agree, the side effect side of things are kinda scary as it is a relatively new procedure, it's hard to know what they will be... hamdillah all I've heard so far are pretty good stories, be'iznillah if I ever do it I will be another "good story" too...

WaSalam

PS. Br. Ya Aba, I did a search on this site for making "istikhara" (which I asssume is what u meant by kheera?), but didn't find any info - perhaps I'm not using the search option properly - I just don't want to open up another thread if there is one already on the subject, can someone post the link if it has already been discussed?

edit: I did the procedure right on schedule

Out of interest has anyone tried those contacts which you dont take off for a month? You even sleep in them. Are they dangerous?

Here they are..

On Friday November 4th I had LASIK done on both my eyes. It was not the most comfortable of experiences to say the least but alhamdullilah no regrets. I now have 20/20 vision and based on post-op results things may improve even still as the swelling goes down over the next couple of weeks.

My beautiful mum was the first person I saw in the waiting room and she was not just a blurry silhouette. Over the last couple of days I've actually been waking up and not having to remember where I left my glasses or call my family to help me find them if I've misplaced them.. no more dry-eye contact lens syndrome from the darn air-conditioning .. today I could drive and see the road signs without wearing glasses/lenses. Subhanallah.. alhamdullilah that's all I've been saying to myself all day today.

This Eid, I know it's a little cliched, but I truly feel like I've been given the gift (and absolute miracle) of perfect of vision. Subhanallah and alhamdullilah again and again :(

Surgery fee:  A$3,250 per eye for LASIK or ASLA,
less the $170 fee paid for the initial consultation.
The surgery fee includes follow-up consultations for six months.

I wanted to get my eyes done, but they wouldn't even have a consultation with me till I was 18. THEN, they really want you to be 21.

My environmental biology teacher had hers done over the weekend. She had both eyes done and it was quick and easy. She loved it.

When I am old enough, I am going to try to get it done. In houston the highest costs I've seen were around $2,000 an eye. With those, however, all the exams, prexams, surgery and follow ups were included. Also, if years later you need to have it done again then they will cover it. :)

Also, I just wanted to add the cost depends on many factors of your eye problems and what techniques they hve to use to correct it.

Get a free consultation, if you are gonna get one!

Wow! So you got it done! I would like to have it done, but I am too scared of anything going wrong during the procedure, and I don't want to end up worse off than I started, Allah forbid. Maybe I'll wait till I'm older? But with such surgery, will your eyes be any worse off than the eyes of someone of comparable age and health when you are older? I hope my question makes sense. Because someone once said something about that. I don't know

Zuljenah, people's eyes degenerate. When you go for consultation, they look into your history. If you eyes are pretty stable, then they go ahead. If, however, your eyes change alot then they fix them. It is natural though for your eyes to weaken when you are much older.

We probably don't have enough people to know if it is actually worse when you  are older. Again, as I posted before, the group in Houston will make vision corrections years later if they become necessary (thats due to natural eye changes not any fault of the procedure).

Inshallah sis if you get it done, I don't think you'd be worse off.. Try find a reputable surgeon/opthalmologist (speak to a few maybe) and go to the one you are most comfortable with. You have to do a pre-consultation and they take all these measurements of your eye.. at the end of it the doctor let's you know if your eyes are suitable for the procedure.

Generally speaking, it's really important to take care of your eyes.. but I think it's even more important to protect your eyes after the procedure. I'm a LOT more conscious of wearing my sunnies now whenever I'm out.

In terms of later on down the track when you're 40-50. I havent heard or read anything that says that there are side-effects for later on.. inshallah ya rabb this means there are no issues whatsoever.

All the best with your decision sis.

Hope all is well Inshallah..

Just wanted to know how many had the Laser Eye Surgery?
If you did..
Did it hurt?
Were you able to see better after?
Is it better than wearing glasses or contacts?
