MUNICH – Helping their players to fulfil their religious duties, German football giants Bayern Munich have decided to build a mosque to help Muslim footballers to perform their prayers.

The German football club agreed to a request to build a mosque in the Allianz Arena stadium to serve its Muslim players and fans.

The request was made by the club’s Muslim midfielder Bilal Franck Ribery, who asked for specifying a small room for players to perform their prayers

The new mosque would serve Muslim players and fans with a full time imam, an Islamic library and Islamic sessions.

The administration also announced that they will finance 85 percent of the costs of the worship place, leaving 15% to Muslim players and fans who want to participate.

The news about the new mosque was made public via the club's official site.

Founded in 1900, Bayern Munich is the top tier of the German football league system, and is the most successful football club in Germany.

The football giants have won a record 23 national titles and 15 cups.
The club won its first national championship in 1932.

Bayern Munich is the biggest sports club in Germany and the fourth biggest football club in the world, generating €368.4 million in 2012.

Bayern is not the first European club to build a mosque for its Muslim players after New Castle United specified a prayer room for Muslim players.

Muslims pray five times a day, with each prayer made of a series of postures and movements, each set of which is called a rak‘ah.

The five prayer times are divided all through the day which starts with Fajr prayer at dawn.

Bayern Munich has a big history and experience with Muslim prayers.
Some Iranian players who played for Bayern:
-Ali Daei
-Ali Karimi
-Wahid Hashemian
And of course some Turkish players and the most famous Muslim Bayern player Franck Ribery.
The most practicing in my view was Ali Daei.
But all of this is irrelevant when you consider some conditions in football.
Fasting for example is not allowed(because of the contract) and even if it was allowed, it would not be possible to fast because of exhaustion.
But then, football is some kind of reflection of society and very interesting to observe.

Lets be realistic. Here the simple answer: They usually don't consider that holy month and either fast at another time or not at all.

That's very naughty of them.

That's not true. How would you know?

Because I read an article about football players who sent request to the Islamic Centres to give Fatwas which allowed them to not fast during this month, this was the religious Muslim players, and some Sunni centres gave Fatwas(stating earning money is more urgent/wajib).
Athleticism requires the utmost physical power and you cannot perform that during the holy month, that is a fact, you need proteins, fluids, and above all minerals. So lets just be realistic. Although there might be one or two exceptions. But I am talking generally.

Demba Ba fasts during Ramadhan. When he started for Newcastle, he played whilst fasting and wasn't playing well and the fans were getting on his back.
When Ramadhan ended, he started banging in the goals and he explained that he was fasting before, hence the lesser performances.

However, other footballers don't fast properly. Nicolas Anelka says he doesn't fast on matchdays in Ramadhan and makes up for it afterwards (which is technically wrong).

You don't find many religious Muslim footballers.

Well anyway, I think the players should pay for the remaining 15%.  They are loaded!

You want the article I have read?

Another interesting article - Ali Karimi was fired in Iran because he didn't consider fasting as a Muslim player:

I hate these guys but they will surely crush Borussia Dortmund 3-1 in the final. Subotic looks terrible this season compared to the last two and without Nuri Sahin or even Kagawa Borussia has looked vulnerable. Lewandowski is capable of missing sitters and Gotze doesn't step it up in terms of scoring, does a great job in terms of assists or opportunities, but doesn't have a nice finishing product himself. Bayern is a team that's improved his defense through Dante whose a beast of a CB, probably the best centerback of the year while Mandzukic makes their forward line deeper than it should be, David Alaba has been a lock at left back both defensively and offensively, Javi Martinez improves the midfield a tad and the team's overall scoring ability is sublime. Almost everyone can finish at the net and have the confidence in doing so.
