Assalamou 3aleikom wa ra7matoullah

Brothers. How are you all ?
Well I must confess that I am not a religious person and I never performed salat regularly before. Now, I´m reaching 27 years old and I feel I must become closer to God but I can´t ....I do fajer, then Zouhr, but after that I let the other prayer pass And I continue 3 or 4 days after the last day I performed prayers.Im feeling so bad :(  Please Can you suggest me some lectures oar reading which can stimulate me to do it dayly . Also I´d love some advices or experiences of brothers or sisters who did not perform the salat before and encouraged themselves and began to do it following Allah orders us to do, and how that affected their lives. Please, tell me how that affect you and how do you feel If you abandon the prayers. Please make dou3a for me. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

Also search for Imam Ali hadith on how prayer is the seal of religion :)
And don't forget Ayatollah Sayyid Khamenei's speech on how one must refrain from sins so that he can focus on prayer and on worship of God :) Jazaakallah khayr!

Salam, brother first of all you are not some cat who needs a stimulus (a fish cookie) to do the tricks that your master wants.

If you believe that Allah (swt) is your Lord and you belive His words in Quran, you ought to follow what He commands you. Period. You don't need a stimulus.

First you will need to ponder and thimk hard about what ALLAH has done for you. Then you need to realise that it is endless, what ALLAH does for his creation. I truly believ that after you realize this then, maybe just maybe it will push you to give thanks to ALLAH anyway you can (salaat).

i have found that i myself was in a similar predicament not so long ago, i am also in my late twenties and got over it by paying attention.
What i mean is that i bet you that you are raised in the west like myself, and i bet that mashallah things are not that bad in your house, family, community or what ever else that you care about.  When i went to do ziyarat in Karbala i saw abject poverty.  people that have absolutely nothing, giving away tabaruk over and over, for Imam Hussain (as). Went to Shaam saw the same thing just as much poverty**  then i went to India, where my mom is from and saw more abject poverty.  its enough to bring ANYBODY to tears honest to god.  went to Pakistan where my dad is from, saw car bombings people dieing, unparallelled poverty.  Since then i have not missed a prayer.  Thank god for everything i have and my loved ones once you start paying attention to the news and the headlines you realize praying is not an option, you should be grateful everyday of your life.

** Im writing this comment as a footnote because its not really related to the question @ hand, read it @ your own discretion.  i had a conversation with a Iraqi gentlemen in halab who seemed normal and didn't know English, we were talking with hand gestures and facial gestures.  he told me calmly that Saddam had murdered his mother, father, and brother.. he was the only one left in his family. then he continued to eat.  he was unphased, he had seen so much death, violence and destruction that he was completely desensitized to it.  and yet i never in the 4 days that i was there saw him miss a prayer, and he had plenty of reasons to make an excuse, but he didn't.
"Be it known to you that you are created for the next world and not for this. You are born to die and not to live forever. Your stay in this world is temporary. You live in a place which is subject to decay and destruction. It is a place where you will have to be busy getting ready for the next world. It is a road (to the next world) on which you are standing. Death is following you. You cannot run away from it. However how hard you may try to avoid it, it is going to catch you u sooner or later. Therefore, take care that it may not catch you unaware and unprepared and no chance is left to you to repent the vices and sins committed and undo the harm done by you. If death catches you unaware then you are eternally damned. Therefore, always keep three things in mind: death, your deeds and actions, and the life hereafter. In this way you will be always ready to face death and it will not catch you unaware." - Imam Ali (a.s.)

Reading this book will provide you with a lot of stimulus :

http://www.feedbooks...rbook/28683.pdf

You should be thankful for what God has given you and show this thanks by praying.
You should feel lucky for being given the opportunity and guidance to pray.

Al-Baqara (The Cow)

2:255 (Picktall) Allah! There is no God save Him, the Alive, the Eternal. Neither slumber nor sleep overtaketh Him. Unto Him belongeth whatsoever is in the heavens and whatsoever is in the earth. Who is he that intercedeth with Him save by His leave? He knoweth that which is in front of them and that which is behind them, while they encompass nothing of His knowledge save what He will. His throne includeth the heavens and the earth, and He is never weary of preserving them. He is the Sublime, the Tremendous.

Salam

Know Who you're worshipping. 'The foremost in religion is knowing Him..', Imam Ali (as) said in his first sermon in Nahjul Balaghah. Build a relationship with Him (this will come naturally once you get to know Him), and those who have perfected their worship (through knowing Him).

Nothing can impress you except the love for your creator in your heart, look what he has given you and then think what you have given to him,he gave you 24 hours in a day and asked just 1 hour in return but we poor people aren't able to provide that also.
Khud Apne Fazaael Ko Chupaya Hai Ali Ne,
Phir Bhi Usay Logon Ne Kaha hai yeh Jali Hai,
Mai Maut  Talak Jaa ke Bhi Ye Jaan Na Paaya
Jis Ne Mujhe Paala Hai Wo Allah hai Ke Ali Hai

Another good stimulus is to realize the unavoidable moment when you will meet Azraiel the angel of death, who will not relent and gives no respite, and your nafs that may have power over you now will then share with you the unexplainable pain of death. And the people who might be very important now will hurry to carry you to a desolate place and abandon you in your grave. All people meet this same end and have to pass through the same eye of the needle to meet their Maker. Understand that death is inevitable and constantly behind us, and the most fearsome thing about it is that you do not really die even after 'death'. There will be hard questions to answer there dear brother. Then on how you are treated will be according to your deeds. Each opportunity we waste in this life we shall regret it immensely but there will be nothing else to do then.

"I wanted a high position in life, I found it in modesty. I wanted leadership, I found it in giving advice. I wanted dignity, I found it in honesty. I wanted greatness, I found it in poverty. I wanted lineage, I found it in virtue. I wanted majesty, I found it in contentment. I looked for peace and found it in asceticism." - Uwais al Qarni
