If my mosque had body building and gym, I would very much rather I go there than 24 hour fitness that has all sort of weird looking people.

the thing is, if that gym is free in our masjid, you can never know who truly comes. Gay or not and such. Anyone can say they are muslim and take advantage. Plus, a mosque is a place of worship, not a place to gain muscles. I would rather have a huge open library in a mosque instead.

Salaam,
This is a great idea. I don't know of any masjid that has any fitness facilities. It will be good if we too adopt this. :)
I define Islam for you in a way that nobody dared to do it before me. Islam means obedience to Allah, obedience to Allah means having sincere faith in Him, such a faith means to believe in His powr, belief in His powr means recognizing and accepting His majesty, acceptance of His Majesty means fulfilling the obligations laid down by Him and fulfillment of obligations means actions (Therefore, Islam does not mean mere faith, but faith PLUS deeds). - Imam Ali (as)

Cannot the same thing be said for Muslims in non Muslim majority countries? Anyway if this is the tactic then I disagree with it, there a better things then a Gym, like a refuge for the homeless?

Na I respectfully disagree. Masjid is to worship Allah (swt) I agree but anything healthy that gets one closer to Allah (swt) is act of worship. If people come to work out at the mosque then they may get inspired by seeing some healthy brothers who are both fit spiritually and physically. It would also be a great place to attract the youth, etc.

I am not saying to have dumbbells and weights in the prayer room but I am all for making mosques more of a "center" for all healthy activities including library as you mentioned.

Hasanain Rajabali has this center called Wise learning and sports. It sounds a lot like what you're getting at. It's mainly for kids ages 8-15, they have afterschool tutoring and islamic classes and then for both the sisters and brothers they have sports/excersize programs. They're working on getting a bigger building (hopefully it'll have a swimming pool!). It would be cool if islamic centers encouraged physical as well as spiritual health though, I agree.

My church had 'Devotion in motion' which was led voluntarily by a member of the church.  It was for the women to come and exercise.  I really enjoyed the fellowship of getting to know the women in my church better, and I enjoyed the exercise so much more.  I liked it so much more since we worked out to Christian music and not the junk that you hear in the public places.  I would close my eyes and meditate on God while exercising my body.  I felt it did so much good for my body and soul.  I sometimes can't even stand being in the stores because some of the music they have playing makes me want to leave.

Their events calendar.

I don't think they have a lack of people at this church. They seem kinda busy.

^... Perhaps that's why they have the funds for more program's and possibly facilities.

From the time I read that, I figured it had nothing to do with a gym...LOL. The church is referred to in Scripture as the body of Christ.

The mosque I go to has a public library detached from the mosque but adjacent to it.  It's the only aspect that motivates me to go to mosque, actually.  It's strange not all mosques have a library, considering how much emphasis the religion stresses on gaining knowledge.

Depends where you live.  Besides mosques are part are of Islamice centers I think a reasonable business should be good and help the community. If it doesn't happen at Mosques and Islamic places then where?

For example Islamic Center in Orange County sells books, Jewlery, and does good things with proceeds so why not

Lol, I don't know why I didn't pick up on that.

We used to use the church, or get together almost every evening of the week, plus Sunday days. No gym, but The ladies group, (whatever they did) Christian Service Brigade, (like boy scouts) Prayer meetings, extra studies, youth group, socials, etc. We also had use of the local school for badminton, and whatever equipment they had. I don't think God has a problem with His people enjoying themselves, (in decent manner).
