Salaams

My child was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes and I am looking for some support from other Muslims and their families who are also dealing with this. Please note must be Type 1 (not Type 2!). Type 1 strikes children and is not caused by diet or lifestyle. It is an auto-immune disorder and my child needs daily life sustaining therapy of insulin in order to survive.

Please let me know if there are any families out there like mine and maybe we can be of support to one another. We live in Toronto, Canada (Richmond Hill).

Jazak'llah.

Can't provide you with any help, but plenty of children have this.  I've heard of some children outgrowing it, others are stuck with it.  Through diet, exercise, and education, your child might be able to manage without insulin.  Good luck.

^ Technically, type I diabetes = Insulin-Dependent Diabetes Mellitus (IDDM).

(wasalam)
They cannot manage without insulin. They are dependent on it as the above poster has pointed out.

u cant cure type 1 but type 2 is mainly from obesity diet etc can easily be removed i used to have type 2 and cured it with a vegan diet. I removed meat dairy and oil from my diet and within 2 weeks it was gone. Type 1 unfortunately yr child is stuck with it for life. You have to take yr medication on time forever.
