Salam,

Whenever I go to a restaurant in Pakistan, they serve a salad that has fruit, cream and vegetables in it.

I have forgotten its name.....

Anyway, does anyone know what it's name is and do any of the Pakistani women on the forum have an authentic recipe for it, please?

No, it has a special name...I just can't remember it now.

It usually has peas and peppers in it, along with fruit like apples it it.  It tastes kinds sweet but also peppery.

It's really yummy and I want to get a recipe of it over the internet, but I have forgotten it's name.

The Russians aren't going to be too happy when they read your thread title.

Russian salad doesn't have any fruit in it. The OP mentioned the salad had fruit. And I can't imagine they would serve Russian salad in a paki restaurant in Pakistan.

Russian salad is actually very common and popular here. They have both types with or without fruit, and normally known as "Russian salads".

It may not be authentic Russian salad per se since foreign cuisines tend to put on a local flavour.  For instance Pakistani cuisine in Europe isn't all that authentic. It's fusion cuisine.

The one in the pic is one of my favourites. *drools*

The real thing may not have fruits but we Pakistanis tend to customize foreign cuisine. You just have to taste our Chinese food to know that. :)

Pakistan's "Chinese food" haha. It reminds me of a joke.

A Chinese visited Pakistan. His hosts took him to a Chinese restaurant so he could eat familiar dishes. After having dined he complimented his Pakistani hosts and said he really enjoyed eating Pakistani food. :D

I once ate some type of lentil dish (almost salad like) from from a pakistani restaurant......I wish I knew the name of it so I could go order it again. I am out of luck though because the restaurant was in Houston and I think my friend got it from a buffet because there were other things in the to go box besides this.

This salad seems similar to the Persian dish salad oliviyeh, which also has Russian roots.

Of course, I'm a big fan of our version of Chinese cuisine, and of all the other dishes and cuisines which originate elsewhere but have a local flavour to it. It's fusion cuisine, different from the authentic, mainstream cuisine. Many multiethnic and multinational countries boast such diverse food. Pakistan is a good example.

However, if one wants to eat purely authentic cuisine of a particular people then one has to seek help from native cooks.

In my first year, I use to work in a Gordon Ramsey styled chef school of the culinary arts program. (I was the only engineering student working there lol, really good experience though)
And tried this exotic dish known as 'Russian Salad' after a minute i was like: 'Heyy it's the Salad those aunties make with Chicken Tikka'!! :P lol
