(salam)

First of all, im celebrating my first Eid as a Shia muslim, as i converted appoximently 1 year ago.

So one question about the Eid day.
As i know, Eid is on Monday and this is what my parents and some friends told me, which are all Sunni. The Shia community here were i live, are celebrating the day after the day Sunnis have clarified. So they will celebrate the first day of Eid on Tuesday. They also started fasting one day after everyone.

Could anyone verify this?
I prefer replies with sources from hadiths and the Quran, but also from what u and ur family does. :)

Thanks!

Walaikum Salam sister

Congratulations to you.

It depends on which part of the world you live in, and also which marja you take your rulings from. Most probably, for most of the world it will be Monday insha'Allah.

Kindly refer to post number 7 in this thread, and feel free to post any questions you may have.

Thank u, brother! :)

I also assume it is on Monday. But i really wondered why the community here does this every day, even if the moon have shown up completly. As u say, it may be the marja who give rulings according to this.

Salaams,

Which marji3 do you follow, and in which country do you reside?

That's okay :)
But I suggest you start looking into it!

I would suggest that since you haven't yet chosen a marji3, to celebrate Eid with the followers of Syed Ali al-Sistani. The majority of people follow him, so you're safe celebrating Eid with them :)

But it really is crucial that you start Taqleed. Why don't you start on Syed Ali al-Sistani for now, and then change to whoever you find to be the most knowledgable after your research. That's what most people do!

Eid day for Shias is not chosen how you have described (a day after the Sunni sect). There have been several times in which Eid has been on the same day for both Shias and Sunnis.

As of my experience I live in a Muslim area where Shias and sunis both has a great population
I have not seen any eid celebrated by both the sects on a different day.
I mean both the sect celebrate it on the same day only it all depends on moon brother anyways cpngrats

Thanks alot for the answers, brothers!
I will then be able to celebrate with my family, which is much better just to not hurt them :)
And i will for sure ask my friend on why they r celebrating on different day, just to clarify it.

Of course, inshallah i will start as soon as possible! :)
Thanks for the suggestion, i will follow ur recommendation. It will then be much easier for me than asking other Shias everytime  :P

.   Salam alaikum,   Why does it matter which marja3 a person follows, ur supposed to fast when u sight the moon, and break it when u sight ut, so why do people follow what a marja3 on the other side of the world says??  Isnt it enough if 4 trustworthy men sight the moon?

Because there are different views among the fuqaha, such as night-sharing (a sighting is valid for all regions that share a part of the night with the area where the crescent was sighted), local-sighting (requirement of sighting the moon in your own region, or in a nearby region), methods of sighting (naked eye vs optical aid), validity of calculations etc...

Wallahu A'lam
.    well maybe ur right, but it has gotten to the point where people follow a marja3 even after they see the moon with their own eyes, like last year when some followers of sistani fasted on eid despite the fact that theyv sighted the moon. And back then did they even have optical aid?
