Seafood (shrimp) is haraam.

You can eat fish (fins and scales), but no other kinds of seafood.  Why would you even want to?  They're the pigs of the sea.  They are bottom feeders, eating other animals excrement.  They carry diseases.  And, most of all, they are HARAAM.

Question :
What kind of marine animals are halal?

Answer :
It is not permissible to eat from marine animals anything except fish that has scale; shrimp is considered from that category [of permissible sea animals]. But other than fish, like lobster, and similarly the fish that does not have scale is forbidden. Allãh knows the best

@Stormrage - I don't know what the answer to your particular question is regarding the people cooking the food. What I do know is according to the above fatwa I posted from the website of Ayatullah Sistani that shrimp is halal to eat.

Brother, in our religion, unlike the different sects in 'Islaam, making a fatwa based on opinion, lack of knowledge and conjecture is forbidden; explicitly by the ma'sumeen (as). It is better to stay silent than speak about a religious issue on which one doesn't have knowledge.

Shrimps creep me out. I mean have you ever looked at them on Animal Planet's documentaries, the way they float in water and crawl on the ocean floor.
