I've always wondered this myself... I mean, if it's half your faith to get married, then wouldn't our Imam (aj) be the personification of such a hadith?
النَّاسُ نِيَامٌ فَإِذَا مَاتُوا انْتَبَهُوا "People are asleep. Once they die, they wake up". - Imam Ali (as)

just personal opinion:

there's no way He (ajtf) is already married. a wife has needs, how would her needs be met? it would be unjust of a husband to marry, but never be with his wife. and since our Imam (ajtf) is clearly not unjust, such a scenario cannot be.

Surely He (ajtf) will get married upon his return. After all, He is human, and human beings have sexual urges and needs. (not to say that's all marriage is good for...)

Who says he can't fulfill her needs.....after all, he's not chasing after us.

My Arabic teacher said that it's only when he reappears

بَقِيَّتُ ٱللَّهِ خَيْرٌۭ لَّكُمْ إِن كُنتُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ

What remains with Allah (Baqiyatullah) is better for you if you are believers.. (Hud : 86)

There are some prophets like Prophet Isa (as) who were never married in their lives. It's not unreasonable to think that the circumstances surrounding Imam Sahib uz Zamaan may have prevented him from getting married.

it might b a bit hard for the imam to live in occultation with a wife because she won't respect (and appreciate) him enough unless she knows. and probably most women can't be trusted to know, or aren't ready to know, or something along those lines. thats my guess anyway.

There are some other du`aa' that can be found inour books that talks giving pleasure to al-Qaa'im, his family and children, but that du`aa' is not authentic. Also, there is another hadeeth from al-Rawandi's Qasas al-Anbiyaa'' from Imaam al-Saadiq (as) that says, "It is like I see al-Qaa'im descending in the Masjid al-Sahlah with his family and relatives" (كَأَنِّي أَرَى نُزُولَ الْقَائِمِ فِي مَسْجِدِ السَّهْلَةِ بِأَهْلِهِ وَ عِيَالِهِ). But this hadeeth is Da`eef (Weak) as well.

The only hadith that I believe is authentic that I've seen that implies this is the following:

`Ali b. Ibrahim b. Hashim from his father from `Isa b. Sabeeh.

He said: al-Hasan al-`Askari عليه السلام entered upon us in the prison, and I knew him. He said to me: You are sixty five years, one month, and two days old. There was a book of du`a’ with me, which had my birth date, and I looked into it and it was as he had said. And he said: Have you been given a son? I said: No. He said: O Allah, give him a son so that he may be his provision, for a son is a good provision. Then he عليه السلام said: He who has a provision can overcome his oppression; desolate is one who has no provision. I said: Do you have a son? He said: By Allah, soon I will have a son who will fill the Earth with equity, but now, no. Then he versified: Perchance one day you will see that it will be as though I have the hair of a lion’s shoulder surrounding me (i.e. I will be as unapproachable as the hair on a lion’s shoulder), as Tamim, before siring a nation, lived alone amidst the people for long. (al-Khara’ij wa al-Jara’ih)

This narration does not directly say al-Qa'im (as) will get married, but Hasan al-`Askari (as) seems to compare himself to Tamim near the end. Tamim is the forefather of a famous Arabic tribe, the Bani Tamim, who are an extremely large tribe that existed from before the Prophet till today. The "hair of a lion's shoulder" part is an Arabic expression which means, Hasan al-`Askari would be unapproachable/untouchable, because of his son or descendents. Again, this is insufficient proof, but something to consider.

We also know from another hadith in al-Kafi that certain people will know the whereabouts of the Mahdi during his major ghayba. Al-Majlisi suggests that this may refer to a family, or simply close companions.

So they will say: Our Lord, did we not worship You? He said: So He will say: Yea, however you were supporters for the oppressors.

This hadeeth is no authentic. Two reasons.

1.) We do not know the Tareeq (path) from al-Rawaandi to `Alee b. Ibraahem specifically for his book al-Kharaa'ij wa al-Jaraa'iH
2.) `Isa b. SabeeH, a person only to be a companion of the 6th Imaam, cannot narrate directly to Ibraaheem b. Haashim. How can he narrate directly to Ibraaheem b. Haashim when `Isa b. SabeeH narrates most of his hadeeth to people like al-Hasan b. Mahboob (d. 224). There has to be at least one waasiTah in between them.

Assalam o alaikum.... Why do some people simply give an opinion and then say its just their guess? Are we allowed to make guesses about these Exalted personalities? As for our Imam asws getting married, i have read a great book named JAZEERA E KHIZRA (the place where our Imam asws is said to live) .According to it, He ajf lives with 30 people. He ajf married a woman from the descent of Imam Hassan asws and has 6 sons, the eldest being named Saleh, hence the Imam is also called Aba Saleh. All this has been narrated by an Ali Mazandrani who happened to get in contact with a couple of people who live around and serve the Blessed Imam ajf. Actually this incidence was reported more than 300 years ago. I got to read an urdu translation, so dont remember the original name now.

Isn't the belief of Imam Mahdi living in a cave/on an Island one that was held pre-Islamic revolution when works of scholars were not fully communicated with the populations?

The understanding amongst scholars is that his ghaybat is not one where he (ATFS) is hiding in a hole, he is amongst us, we cannot recognize him. He could be sitting in a lecture hall, but we do not know him.

I am referring to what was said in this lecture by Khalil Jaffer:

Assalam o Alaikum. Bro Ali Ibn Hussain, I did not say he is hiding in a cave or an island because I dont see him as a helpless and powerless person like us.r One of his names is Hadi, another Qaem, so it is clear that he ajf will fulfill these names. For this, he is present among us to guide any1 who asks for it. He ajf is the Hujjah at this time so surely he must have more power and autonomy than us. He can fulfill his duties well even without being seen by us. Yes, he can be anywhere in a lecture hall etc without being revealed, as it is the pre-requisite for his Ghaibbah.( May Allah hasten his Re appearance.)
