Ramdhan moon crecsent

The Office of His Eminence Ayatullah Al-Udhma Seestani (long may he live) – in Najaf has issued a statement informing Momineen that the sighting of the Ramadhan moon crescent has been ascertained by His Eminence (long may he live) and that tomorrow Saturday is the first day of Ramadhan in Iraq and all Arab and nearby Islamic countries as well as African countries, Australia, New Zealand and North and South America.

As for the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy and related European countries the first day of the blessed month of Ramadhan will be Sunday.
We ask Allah Almighty to let this be a month of goodness and blessings upon all Muslims for ‘He is All hearing and answers prayers.’

I'm in Australia but I fasted yesterday because my Mosque said it was the first of Ramadan... I'm fasting right now and it's the second of Ramadan, well that's what my Masjid says -_- I'm so confused.
Imam Ja`far as-Sadiq [a] said:

"For everything there is weighing and measuring except tears. One tear drop can extinguish oceans of fire. If the eyes flood with tears, the face will not suffer hardship and humiliation. When tears flow out, Allah forbids them from the Fire. And if a person weeps in a nation, such nation will receive favors."

sometimes unity in YOUR own community is more important in these matters so I see no problem with this...

Ya don't you attend a majority Sunni Mosque. You probably should follow your marjae to be safe bro.

There's nothing wrong with starting early.  Just make sure you fast through the entire time that your marja' says instead of stopping when Saudi imagines a moon again.  That way it'll be a valid fast and you'll get extra ajr (reward) for fasting an extra day before inshaAllah :D

It is haraam to fast on eid though so be sure the timing works out so that you don't fast on eid.

Why is it that when you view the arabic version of the announcement, it says that most parts of Canada will start their first day on Sunday, while the English version says that Saturday is the first day for both North and South America.

So confused.

Well, you can fast on the 30th of Shaban but you cannot fast on Eid.

Your other comments are funny. :)

It depends on what part of Canada you live. Sorry for the confusion. This is a problem every year. The Canadian areas directly adjacent to the North part of the United States of America are included to be Saturday, where the northern parts of Canada are Sunday. So, Toronto would be near Detroit, so the first day of the Holy Month of Ramadan would be Saturday. If you live in North part of Canada, perhaps like Yellowknife, it might be Sunday. Hope I explained it properly.

Office of Late At. Fadlullah says 1st is on Friday. This fatwa is based on global moon fatwa (meaning if moon is sighted anywhere where it shares the night with you, then the start is considered for your area). He also believed in astronomical scientific moon sighting as well. Apparently late Ay. Khoi was of the same opinion of global moon sighting. Ay. Sistani goes by the moon sighting on your horizon only.

Between the two Shia marajae opinions, its better to follow what your majority Shia are doing in your area irrespective of which Maria you follow.

some of canada though right or non ? the charts on crescent watch show some interesting things for all three days Google as the linking don't work for it here.

as for us in america

Crescen[Edited Out]ch has confirmed reports of the new crescent moon of Ramadan being sighted at numerous locations around the globe, including California, Virginia, and multiple other U.S. locations on the evening of Friday, July 20th. This marks the completion of 30 days of the month of Shaban, and the blessed beginning of Ramadan. We are delighted to welcome the entry of this sacred month and to begin the fast of Ramadan on Saturday, July 21st.
May Allah accept it from all of us and make our Ramadan a source of benefit, enrichment, and closeness to Allah, Most High.
* Crescen[Edited Out]ch.org adheres to the traditional principle that Islamic lunar months begin and end based on the confirmed, verifiable naked-eye sighting of the new crescent moon.
