Salamun Alaykum,

Tell me what you guys think. Can it be done?

Alternatively I could just bike before imsaak or after mahrib/isha (as in after breaking my fast).

Thanks,

AspiringToBeShia

When you say 'biking' i assume youre not riding to work or local shops? how intensive is this 'biking'? i'd be concerned about the effects of dehydration in amongst traffic.

You're leaving out too many variables here.  What's the temperature like where you live?  How long are the fasts?  What kind of shape are you in currently?  How much do you hydrate in the morning?

I've started doing my workouts about 20-30 minutes before it's time to open my fast.  That way I can either open my fast as soon as I'm done working out, or open it with a drink of water 5-10 minutes before being done, finish, take a quick shower, and say magrib, then eat iftar, then say Isha at Isha time.

It's entirely possible in my opinion to continue working out, and I think it's much more admirable and better to be working out in Ramadan.  A lot of non-Muslims criticize us for becoming "useless" during Ramadan, making excuses about how tired we are, and what we can/can't do.  But we need to remain fully functional members of society.

(salam)
I also excercise right before breaking my fast for 20-30 minutes, and have had no ill effects.  Since I can drink almost immediately after, it works out fine.
Of course, you have to know yourself, your level of fitness, and the weather conditions where you will be biking, but in general, I think it can be done.

I exercised when I got chance during the day for 20 to 30 minutes, obviously not at the same intensity as I would when I am not fasting.... In addition, I exercised couple of hours after opening the fast....  Everything at a reduced capacity and intensity. The key is drinking plenty of water after opening the fast and plenty of water when closing the fast... For me couple of big slices of watermelon did the trick, with an extra positive benefit that it is packed with carbohydrate.... However, I everything depends on personal fitness and the local climate so take precaution....
