India has test fired a long-range ballistic missile capable of carrying payloads up to 1,000 kilograms from a military base off the country's eastern coast of Odisha.


"The test-firing of the missile, with a strike range of 700 kilometers, took place at 10:10 a.m. (local time). The test-firing has been successful and the missile has achieved its target. The test-firing took place from the Integrated Test Range at Wheeler Island,” Indian sources said on Friday.

Agni-I is a single-stage, solid fuel surface-to-surface missile which is capable of carrying a nuclear warhead.

The missile is 14.8 meters long, 1.3 meters in diameter and weighs 12 tons.

Already inducted in the Indian army, Agni-I has been developed by the state-owned Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and was commissioned in 2002.

The successful test of Agni-I comes after the successful launch of the 5,000-km range Agni-V on April 19, 2012.

Agni-V, a long-range intercontinental ballistic missile, is capable of carrying a 1.5-ton nuclear warhead and has also been locally developed.

The Agni (meaning "fire" in Hindi and Sanskrit) in one of the country's most sophisticated weapons.

In 2010, India successfully test-fired Agni-II missile, with a range of over 2,000 km (1,250 miles).

Nuclear-capable India and Pakistan, which have fought three wars -- two over the disputed Himalayan territory of Kashmir -- routinely carry out missile tests but normally notify each other in advance under an agreement.

Both neighbors have refused to sign the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and other treaties that restrict developing or testing nuclear weapons.

Relations between the two countries have been rocky over the past decades.

These states insinuate violence against other countries and entities, they engage in cold wars and are the largest traders of arms in the market but they still have the audacity to smile to the world and proclaim that they want nothing but peace. Hahah hypocite... U forget ur arab pupits.. the real reason behind Western dictatorship. Anyone who strengethens his land for the future trouble. It doesnt make them a hypocrite but rather a brave warrior who is prepared for future WAR. Arabs were fool to let the snake live in their land n control their land.. Just look at wats happenin now. PPl of palestine r gettin trashed by ISraeli in the center of MID eAst n muslims hve done nothing so far.. that NOW a persian tiger needs to show the might while arabs sit on their butt n eat rice n lamb happily.  AND u hve prooblem with us. There is a difference between maintaining minimal deterrence and destabilizing a delicate balance. India continuously explores ways to gain an upper hand over Pakistan by developing newer weapons. On the other hand, Pakistan invests more and more efforts into maintaining a credible deterrence level against India.
   By hypocrite I meant states which invest and develop weapons while asking for peace in other countries. As I said above, the difference is clear, this wasn't a test to show and maintain credible deterrence. It was to show India's aggressive nature and willingness to continue this cold war.
As a tit-for-tat measure Pakistan will probably test an improved Babur cruise missile.

And the game will continue.

I honestly dont knw why im writing. But let me tell u one last thing.  pakistan is a little bug, that is trying to compete with a lion. Indias progress in militarism is enttirely for CHina, Not pak. Bc pak cant even control its own land. Hw can such a country even think of fightin a lion ? lol Few months ago, ur honorable guest ws Osama. Did he give u some good advice? ANd now do u reali think any nation will support u? Its not possible, Osama ws found living happily with few wivess in a mansion type house. Pakistan is done playing all games. Pashtun will soon take pak over n it will be the new Afghanistan.  
The defense ur talkin about isnt that ISI bombings in India like the recent one. ISI is just like Mossad of Israel. Do u reali think its wise to let ISI kill ppl in INdia?  So far all these small incidents hve been ignored. But if tomo India decides to give a taste of its power. I will not doubt if pakistan turn into a graveyard !  SO it would be wise for pak and its ppl to convince ISI not to kkill our ppl solelly out of jealousy. WE knw for sure, hw joyful u ppl feel when ISI blows some place like obreo hotel in Mumbai. IF such actions r not stopped, i can assure u . The day i get into politics. I will make the change.
