One possibility is under ground. Much simpler than a "higher frequency dimension". There is also an account about Imam Ali (as) descending down a cave or well on direction of the holy Prophet (pbuh) to subdue a certain rebellious and vicious tribe of the Jinn who had cities underground. There is also a book by a scholar or someone named Shostri who explains how the living through spiritual exercise and control over their nafs can separate their consciousness or soul and travel anywhere they want to meet spirits of people passed away. I have the book with me somewhere but hopefully someone far more knowledgable in ahadith might come along and provide you a "sahih" or two.

"I wanted a high position in life, I found it in modesty. I wanted leadership, I found it in giving advice. I wanted dignity, I found it in honesty. I wanted greatness, I found it in poverty. I wanted lineage, I found it in virtue. I wanted majesty, I found it in contentment. I looked for peace and found it in asceticism." - Uwais al Qarni

Sallam Alykum,

to my understanding the Jinn live among us. Some on the ground, some in the air, some in the oceans. But their is a barrier between us and them and usually we can not see them unless the evil of them attempts to break the barrier.

The spirit world I'm assuming is barzakh, the place your soul goes to after death. We in this world have no connections to that world nor can we as far as I know.

If you want to know more about that try searching from a non-islamic perspective first - ie. try googling "out of body experiences" (OBE), "shadow people", "entities", "etheric body"... muslims tend to exaggerate and make up fake things when it comes to jinn for some reason (and of course not everything on google will be true either).

Many normal people, who are not saints or even disciplined spiritual people are able to have OBE's and can even see jinn's with their own eyes - its not about religion or being a saint and its definitely not haraam - I think its more of a science - the more you can activate your "spiritual organs" (aka "chakras") and "etheric body" the better you can percieve "non-physical" beings. This is not fiction. However, in order to perceive the spiritual world beyond death and of higher realms with ease, that is probably where religion would come in.

A Qur'an that advises you to remain ignorant about the sciences of this world? Interesting.

(bismillah)
(salam)

Ok sorry to continue my talk but I have to - here is a perfect example of what I mean and it only uses the science of the physical world we already have.

Supposedly this technique has a high success rate but you should try it for yourself.

Step 1: Set an alarm and sleep for 6-7 hours

Step 2: Wake up at 6 hours, and stay awake for at least 3-5 minutes and make sure to wake up your mind fully (don't stay half asleep)

Step 3: Go back to sleep

That's all~

The science is that a normal person goes into REM sleep (dream sleep) after roughly 6 hours of sleep. If you wake up at that point, the next time you sleep you will end up going straight to REM sleep without repeating the other stages of sleep. The idea here is that by waking up, you are trying to awaken your conscious mind so that you become more alert and if you're lucky you end up opening your spiritual eyes and you take flight as your spirit while your body sleeps (OBE). If your not as lucky you might actually fall asleep but you will be aware of the fact that you are dreaming and you can control your dream (lucid dreaming) - or in the worst case you will just fall asleep like normal and wake up to realise that you failed.

Hadith (and millions of people) confirm that you leave your body as your soul when you sleep: Imam al-Baqir (as) said, "When people sleep, their spirits go out into the sky. Whatever the spirit sees while in the sky is true, and whatever it sees in the air (between earth and the heavens) are just muddled dreams."

This method is just using the knowledge and science we already have (and not using some evil black magic voodoo pact with the devil lol..) - try it out for yourself and you will find that when your spiritual eyes open you will see jinn and even other human beings who have done this and you can communicate with them.

In Islam we would most probably call this tajarrod. Even if this is not entirely the same as what you mentioned about astral projection it is still extremely close in meaning. Astral projection is usually practiced during one's sleep (judging from the books I read on the topic), but tajarrod as we know it in Islam is also possible to be established while being wide awake.

The descriptions about the experiences that people had during astral projection matches the descriptions of the world of barzakh, where they mention that it is a world free from matter, but that there is still form left, etc.

In general everyone is able to experience some stages of this and enter barzakh. However, non-Muslims are not able to pass beyond the stage and world of barzakh, while Muslim 'urafa are able to reach other worlds like malakoot and even 'see' Allah.

Salam alejkum,

I can't speak for what Islam says as I'm not knowledgeable enough, although from a book that I read (link below) and some research that I done a while back the way I understood it is that the Jinns live among us, although they tend to live in derelict areas and abandoned places also forests etc. Although we can't see them in there true form and we can only hear them, unless they "transform" or what not. Its a truly interesting subject I agree although there's only so much we know about them.

http://www.kalamulla.../JinnDevils.pdf

(Good read and interesting although not sure about how valid it is, although most parts seem to be valid as researching in different places they mentioned similar points).

To enter the spirit world, you need to have very high spirituality.

Before you think about spirit world - how about you think of this world. Increase your faith and knowledge.

We will all enter a spirit world once we die, so what's the rush?

There arent too many occasions I would do this, but ill agree with Fuan.

The Prophet has stated that people, or Muslims more specifically, are to seek knowledge, not to avoid looking into a variety of topics.  It is a win win, where all you will do is learn about whatever it is you are looking into.

On the actual topic though, many people do have outer body experiences, and many people have lucid dreams and there are those events in which you feel as though you are awake, but almost not in control of your body.

There are a few things that can happen.

But, the key point here is, they only occur when your brain..is basically not properly functional.  If you had an outer body experience while you were wide awake, that would be something to speak of, however, when half asleep, your brain can give you perspectives on all sorts of odd things that may or may not be real.

Its like those pictures, where you look at them and then the color changes to a negative resolution, but your brain still makes colors out of it.  Or those pictures where lines are moving but they really are not, or...ink images etc.

The brain makes images, that arent actually there.  Even now, looking at our computers.  Our eyes have many blind spots (at least 15% of what we see isnt actually being seen), but our brain molds the colors together and makes a consistent image.

But anyway...obviously as a non muslims I will say this.  People should be willing to contemplate a variety of conclusions, before assuming something like "demons and jinn, we just cant see them!".

Instead of assuming that the solution revolves around something invisible, lets start looking into the things that are visible first.  And in asking questions, you will only be gathering knowledge anyway, so there is nothing un islamic about considering and discussing alternatives.

1. I meant the eyes of your actual spirit when you take flight and leave your body - shia scholars, I believe, call this body "jasad mithali"

2. Chances are that your fear of seeing them will prevent you from ever having an OBE (but not necessarily). Whether or not its scary is a personal opinion. Just think of it like seeing people you don't know - you mind your business they mind theirs (generally).

The easiest way would be to reach the highest levels of human potential through Islam and proper adherence to it, but that is probably a lifelong endeavor. Apart from that I'm sure there is a science that exists just for the sake of these things and not as a religion, but these are sciences of the unseen which not many people understand well. :(
