Dear Brothers and Sisters,

I'm currently trying to compose a list of the heads of the Hawza in Najaf, since around 1800. I would like to then research their lives and see what differentiated them from their contemporaries to try to see if they share certain common qualities that the others did not.

My main issue right now is actually compiling the list, I've found that there is plenty of information on many of the greater ayatollahs of the last few hundred years, but I've yet to see a consolidated list of the Maraja' that headed the Hawza.

I wld be very grateful to anyone that could aid me in my search or has suggestions on books that may contain the answer (Arabic is fine, but I cannot read Persian!). As I slowly pour over Mohsin Amin's Ayan al Shia, I'm finding that there is too much information to easily find such a simple list of what I imagine can be no more than 20 people.
