In Arsene we trust.

Sell him and buy some players though.. like seriously its about time we started spending a bit large....

We got Podolski now anyway

RVP needs to remember who paid his wages when he was on the treatment table for so many games. One world class season, and now he thinks he's everything.

I would cash in on him. He's entering the final stage of his career. Everytime he falls down on the pitch, the Arsenal fans gasp to see if he'll get up again - he's one injury away from returning to his old habits.

He's been a loyal gunner for years to be fair... and that wasn't just any random last season- literally we wouldn't have finished third in the league were it not for him. I don't feel no resentment toward him... and he's getting on, approaching 30 and he wants some silverware to his name, he's seen past colleagues leave Arsenal for bigger clubs and he wants some of that action too. Can't say I blame him.

We will survive without him though, we've managed without Ian Wright, Thierry Henry, Fabgregas, and after a year RVP. We need some new talent anyway - but Arsenal heavily relied on RVP last season.

I look forward to the new season - and I've reluctantly come to accept our new kit.

Even if the dutch flags on the sleeves failed to convince RVP to renew his contract.

It'll soften the blow for Arsenal fans if he goes abroad.

I agree, there is only Football, anything else, other than The Beautiful Game, is a corruption of the term.

Oh yeah, Man City have stolen enough of our players as it is for one.

I see more opportunity for our other new signing, the French striker Olivier Giroud, he will have a much more vital role once RVP leaves as our new man up front, though he will need to adapt quickly to Premier League football coming from the French league.

What do you all make of this?

Quote

Goal-line technology systems set for green light

Goal-line technology is set to get the go-ahead when the International Football Association Board (IFAB) vote on Thursday over whether to use it.

The results of testing will be heard before IFAB are expected to approve the Hawk-Eye and the GoalRef systems.

The Premier League and Football Association can then introduce the technology into their competitions.

FA chairman David Bernstein and general secretary Alex Horne have travelled to Zurich to take part in the vote.

The English FA and their Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland counterparts each has a single vote, while Fifa - world football's governing body - has four.

Any law change needs at least six of the eight votes.

The desire to bring in goal-line technology increased after Ukraine were denied an equaliser after the ball appeared to cross the line in a 1-0 defeat by England at Euro 2012.

That incident led to Fifa president Sepp Blatter adding his support to calls to bring in technology to help in such decisions.

Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo said: "We see every season, every big tournament, we need it because there are some crucial moments within those games where you could find the right solution with a bit of technology.

Uefa president Michel Platini is believed to favour the use of five match officials and the IFAB will also examine whether that strategy has been a success.

They are also set to rule on whether special headscarves can be worn during matches after pressure from some Muslim countries.

http://www.bbc.co.uk...otball/18719396

Football and technology don't have the best of relationships, and the sport is generally criticised by some for being too traditionalist and backward, especially in comparison to Tennis, Rugby, Cricket, etc - all of whom use some form of touch-line technology and are seen as much more progressive in that regard.

Many will argue that the pace of the game will be slowed down by the introduction of such technology, yet others will argue, the pace and gameplay of the other sports are not affected by it.

Personally, I'm accustomed to football as it is, and I guess we all like a little bit of controversy in the matches, which leaves us discussing it for years to come - such as the dodgey Geoff Hurst goal in the England-West Germany 1966 final in which the ball touched the line - or Maradona's Hand of God goal, etc. I guess it is easier to do this when your own team/country isn't on the receiving end of these questionable and costly goals.

Wenger sucks.

I can't believe he signed Podolski. No wonder this team is not producing. He keeps bringing garbage overrated players. He brought a ton of French defenders that lead the team nowhere. They're all flashy and for show but don't produce. Then there's that idiot Nasri whose also flashy but doesn't show up when it counts the most. The none-French defenders that were signed in the last couple of years are awful as well: Mertesacker and Santos are midtier, they're not top tier defenders at all. The latter showed a lot of attitude when he played for Fenerbahce, very greedy.

Gervinho is inconsistent, Chamakh, and then probably Ryo will go bust as well.

Arsenal needs to sign better quality players and ones that don't chase the dollar but are there to play and win titles.

Fabregas, Van Persie, are gone, this team can only get worse. Don't see how it can get better.

It's the board that sucks, not Wenger. I've always said to Arsenal fans that the board are hanging him out to dry.

Barcelona made a great move by getting Jordi Alba. It's never easy to find a competent left back player.

The only thing I'm worried about is our center back position. It is still a hole. We can't just plug in defensive midfielders and hope to slow down the problem.

Some people suggested Javi Martinez. He's so-so but he's not one whose able to show up in each and every single big match.

I hope we can get Kyriakos Papadopoulos in the near future. What I've seen from him at the NT level and a couple CL games here and there at Schalke looked quite promising. He did a great job on Dzeko in that Bosnia-Greece friendly and seems to be good at tackling.

Podolski isn't an overrated player, his best days have probably passed somewhat, like when he was at Cologne and then onto Munich before the 2006 World Cup. Even still, he managed to put past 18 goals in 29 appearances in the last season back with Cologne, even though they still got relegated from the Bundesliga.

He is still lethal in the box, and can make effective crosses, we will need him as a winger for sure.

I don't know much about this new frog, Olivier Giroud, only that he played for Montpellier and that he scored 21 in 36 appearances.

We've at least made some additions to our attack, it is our defence that worries me now, but hopefully we can still milk RVP while we he is here with us, and the 2 new signings can gel with the team. As I said, there will be a lot of pressure on Giroud once RVP leaves, so he has no choice but to adapt quickly.

Arsene has invested in the past in previously little-known French players which ultimately paid off, Nicholas Anelka and living legend Thierry Henry springs to mind. Nasri was also a good signing and most lethal on the edge of the box - which he has been displaying with City.

Seems like City is intent on selling Dzeko. He was on/off but I thought went it came to the bigger games he certainly did contribute. Even contributed in the final match that determined the premier league.

Giroud seems like a reasonable choice considering he had a goal/cap ratio close to 50% for the last 2-3 clubs he played for at France.

Nasri has some psychological issues. He has a big ego. He did incredibly well for his first year with City. Lets see how he does for the entire duration.

I'm more critical of French defenders than other positions. They seem to do better elsewhere.

Eric Abidal turned out to be great for Barcelona. I also think Raphael Varane looks promising as a future center back for Real Madrid. So once in awhile there will be a few that do end up becoming gems. I just guess Arsenal ends up pulling the shorter end of the sticks when it comes to picking the better ones.

Brazil are tearing apart Great Britain. The gulf between them in terms of technical ability is so wide.

Neymar and Hulk will be quite an interesting partnership.

I think they can top Villa and Torres (which historically should have been amazing but it never lived up to the hype).

If United were to put out cash for a player some age, I'd go with Sneijder as opposed to RvP since it's the central midfield that needs reinforcement.

Sneijder would be a good addition but I reckon he'll cost the same amount as lucas, so I think if we gna spend that much it.s have to be with someone who has great potential rather than someone whos already at the peak of his career
