I thought that we recite in the sigha that marriage is being performed to abide by the sunna and stay away from haram. The brother in the OP was probably genuine and spoke what he felt and wanted. And nikah literally means sex and every momin/momina have biological needs. I have seen people getting unconfortable with mutah and nikah and are okay with zinah.
Sex is definitely the most important reason behind marriage and needs more attention in our community but he probably chose the wrong girl . She is probably the kind of woman who thinks lowly of a man who speaks truth however according to ahadees being truthful is manliness.
She definately may wish to not marry him even if he is religious because it is she who will spend the whole life with him. She may reject the guy for his looks, wealth, or family but rejecting due to religiosity may be a problem and I think the hadees being talked about is just that. You like his religion, like him but have reservations due to poverty, race etc.
