the problem is that this house was designed by my own engineering company (that i work for) as a self bracing stilts
we have used columns (UC150) and suspended two stories on top of that .....
the house moved too much because its so high...
its a basement with the columns and then two stories on top of that. the two stories have good bracing but the basement is self bracing ( has no walls or braces and relies completely on those UC150s for bracing)
am a bit afraid does anyone know ?
salaam

Don't mind my asking, but around how much do you think would it cost you to get an architect to come and check it out for you? Even if it's good, no danger and you were worried for nothing, consider strengthening the basement columns and/or corners, even if little by little, to avoid any future problems. Besides 5.2 is not that powerful for an earthquake, and you say you felt the house being rocked and made you think that "khalass, this is how it all ends for me, typing on Shiachat fee sabeel'el'LLAH, defending his orders of multiple pubescent wifedom... Anyway, jokes aside, what if a stronger one happens in the future? And it probably will... Just start taking precautions...
Insha'Allah nothing will happen to your love nest alimoe... I mean that sincerely...

You'd want a structural or safety engineer to check that sort of thing.
hey alimo, did u get 3 stories hoping to put 1 wife in each story? serious question.

yes the structural engineers should check it which is supposed to be myself... thats my job but maybe we need more experinced people to check the welding.
I am considering putting MS angle bracing on the columns along alogn the boundries and some internal walls ,,, i was thinking of doign that any way lon time ago because water is ponding and am afrain the galvanised steel will rust in the far future so if its braced it will sit even if the bttom rusts
regardomg the wives no I actually wanted to have two stories or two houses because i went in the project with my sister , i,e, to have a storey for each of us ....
then she went out of the project and we were left with the whole thing
the land turned out to be a nightmare containing many huge rocks and hence i chose stumps instead of slab ..... when i did that i thought I might as well make the stumps up in the air and gain an extra basement which could be converted to a house in the future
so yes technicallly now that my sister left it could be used for the two wives .. there is somthing wrong with that?
but if i was to do for the wives i should have done 5 stories or 5 houses /units
1 for a muta wife
and 4 permenant
a more practical is to give each wife a room not a house ,,,, in the past thier houses had an open area in the middle and the rooms are all around which makes them very private

God Alimoe, LOL man masha'Allah, may Allah reward you for making me, a humble fellow brother wannabe Muslim laugh so hard... You brighten our days up bro... You always turn our frowns upside downs...
Nice fantasy, I have that too, except with a 1001 wives and concubines, like that story or something... Of all kinds and tastes and flavors, except I don't think I'd be able to build a house that big :-(((((. Or you know what, to think of it, I'll just jam and cram them up all together and make them pretend we're in Noah's ark...
You'd like to have 4 permanent and 1 Mut'aah wife (which will be the one changing to another pretty much all the time I assume)... Come man, what would Jesus do?

It's ok........if he gets two with a strong enough will and Charlie Brown's teacher starts rambling the kitchen will blow up and they won't have to worry about earthquakes.

Don't get me wrong Alimoe ;-) Not against polygamy here, can't be, first Allah a.j. says it's okay, and second, I'm a man, so heck yeah... Simply citing a few downfalls... Which are facts...

You should of got 250s or 300s.
Either way, it was a tiny earthquake, you freaked out massively lol. I wonder what your reaction would be if you were in an actual war ? Inshallah khair humdellah Allah pulled you through

I was in a war before but you have to be afraid of danger in order to avoid it,,,, its not bravery to claim not to be scared of earthquakes specially considering the insignificance of our size and the weaknesses of our body with the magnitude and power of an earthquake.
bravery is to fight for the sake of god but not to dismiss danger and deny being scared...
is there a soldir who is not scared ?
even musa was scared when they wanted to grab him and kill him but his fear of god is above his fear of pain and hence he continues his journey but he doesnt deny his fear of pain and injury
I was born in a jail and 7 of my uncles were executed in the battle with saddam ,, During the war i had rockets land right next to me and splinters shatter everything and missiles exploding on my friends house and killing 15 of them ....
also snipers shooting people ....
Our house was a rebel center in the uprising so we had grenades in the drawers and clashnikov and things like that,
we were treating injured people some of whom later escaped to iran but kept doing operations inside iraq until they died...
so I have seen war but anyone who has wife and children will be afraid even if not for himself for his kids so we shouldnt deny the fear to appear brave

Alimoe, you never have to be scared, if not, your wife or wives and kids will be even more scared...
Wasn't it Imam Ali s. that said "whenever we wanted to regain courage in battles we'd look at the Prophet s. and how he was, courage would then overwhelm us"...
Be the Prophet s. in this case... Or in all cases...
Be the prophet you were meant and born to be Alimoe... You're close...
