It would have been a lot easier to recommend if the car's intended type of usage (frequent city use, long drives, once-every-few-days, etc.) had been provided. Also what do you want from your car? Do you want it to run fast, provide more comfort, fun or easy to drive, pretty car for showoff? And then do you want to keep it for a long time or do you wish to sell it off after a year or so? Those factors would help immensely in recommending one.

For example, I have a Toyota Hilux 1992 model by choice since it has sturdy front suspensions for offroad / no-road, it is 4x4, it has double cabin for passengers and it can carry a lot of stuff in the back. I have a 3.5 liter, 6 cylinder toyota made petrol engine in it that enables it to run on methane (to save gasoline expense) and makes it perform a lot better than it genuine 2.8 liter diesel engine allowed it to. So its a vehicle that can do all things and serves my requirements. However, it is not for young people, it does not do those acrobats or stunts that a Honda Civic Reborn in the hands of a teen in the city might do.

I also have a motorbike to save fuel tremendously, for when I'm going alone and the destination is not far away (motorbikes are uncomfortable).

Anyway, if it comes to toyota vs. honda then I would recommend Honda. My sister has a Honda, Accord I think. As compared to toyota, honda is a lot more comfortable, has a lot better drive, and is considerably more reliable and trouble free. It also performs better and can be customized very easily, although I doubt any sister would want or need to do so. :) So honda civic, unless I know more about your requirements / expectations from the car.

Edit: Before any toyota fan flames me, I would like to point out that honda's brakes and braking systems in their cars, suspensions, road grip and hence its drive, safety and reliability are far superior to a toyota.

If you are looking for a second hand car, then don't buy from a dealer. Most of the cars from dealers are lemon. Look for private buyer on craiglist.

If you are looking for just a basic/compact car then you have choices among Japanese cars or Korean like the Civic, Corolla or Hyundai. Most people recommend Toyota and Honda, but I personally think they are way overpriced, including the previously owned cars.

The car I need is just small, maybe seats 2 in the front and 3 in the back. I would not use it every day, because of the high gasoline prices. I need it to go to the bank, buy groceries, go to the doctor or dentist or eye doctor once a year. InshaAllah.

Thank you all for the advice and tips! This is a topic that can be useful to other people, not just me, so I appreciate it. :)

Salam Sister Hameedah, one of my aunts bought a Nissan Versa a few years back, it was a nice small car, got the job done. I think it was around $10k which isnt too bad, and it's fuel economy .

Honda has improved a lot in the past years. 10 years ago their transmission would have a jerk everytime it would change gears.

As far as ride quality is concerned Camry is more smoother. Accord on the other hand has a stiffer suspension but that does equate to road grip. Both have extremely nice reviews for reliability and safety.

While searching for used cars i found Camrys to be cheaper then Accord as the market is flooded. You will save a couple of grand by going with a Toyota.

Right now majority of Car dealers are offering rates as low as 2.9% or even 0%...Granted there are a lot of options for cars under $5k.. I have another suggestion: Infiniti i30.

Could you please give me your opinion on buying an automobile? Here is a link with 41 different cars.

Do you recommend any of them? I cannot afford to buy a new one, maybe 2007-2009.

What are you thinking? Thanks in advance. :)
