Initially, before the rise of the Fatimids in North Africa (which was from the year 909 in Algeria to 1171 in Egypt), the region was Sunni.

It was not "Sunni", as something like "Sunni" didn't exist during that time(Sunnah means the true Sunnah of the prophet and every Muslim was supposed to follow the Sunnah of the prophet and Ahlul Bayt). But Sunni as a name for a sect was not existent during that time, maybe adherents of Umar and Abu Bakr. There were the Khalifah usurpers, namely Abu Bakr and Omar calling themselves the rightfully vicegerents of the prophet and there was Imam Ali, who was silenced by them and had no right to defend his right as the true Khalif.
Whereas during Imam Alis reign Egypt became Shia(adherents) of Ali, and Malik al-Ashtar was sent there as a representative of Imam Ali to reign Egypt.

I'm aware of the historical events.

I used the term Sunni in italics for a reason so as to suggest the mainstream majority branch of Muslims at the time, given the fact that they had been disunited pretty on the outset of the Prophet's (s.a.w) passing. If you want to talk about semantics, there was no sect explicitly called Shi'ites either - there was only Muslims.

He is currently the Imam of Al-Azhar university and the Al-Azhar masjid, and has the title "Shaikh Al-Azhar" - this is  probably the highest title/position in the Sunni world.

(salam)
For those of you who are following us in Imam Mahdi forum should know that if we are near the time of Sufyani(only Allah swt knows), then we must be around the time of the masri al abqa
And if that is true, then we are soon to witness events and tragedies that are going to differentiate and divide Islam SHIA VS SUNNI
do not fall for these in your towns/cities when major events start to occur and IF they start to occur, be SMARTER!

And it was not [possible] for this Qur'an to be produced by other than God , but [it is] a confirmation of what was before it and a detailed explanation of the [former] Scripture, about which there is no doubt, from the Lord of the worlds.

Or do they say [about the Prophet], "He invented it?" Say, "Then bring forth a verse like it and call upon [for assistance] whomever you can besides God , if you should be truthful."

Well, exactly, and that is the point. As you mentioned it before being Muslim they were Christian, and before Christians? So, this Shaikh claim doesn't make any sense to get all angry over a few people convert to a sect other than your own.

What about thousands of Christians convert to Islam in the West and they build mosques? In that case this lunatic Egyptian cleric celebrates day and night. And if the Europeans ban the building of a mosque and tell them to go to Saudi or Egypt, I am sure the first one to protest will be this cleric and the likes of him.

Seems reasonable.

This forum is proof enough.

An authoritarian troll who hates free speech? Not a surprise at all. You may now continue to spread your genocidal hatred against Shias using the free speech privileges provided by a Shia website.

Somewhat true. He is definitely probably considered one of the 'top' Sunni Imams there, but he was appointed by Mubarak (kinda loses credibility there in my eyes). But he has been a moderate (being appointed by Mubarak should give that away), always going against hardliners.

The explanation gives the reasons, ofcourse Shias', for the most part, will only look from their perspective.

I agree with Sheikh al Azhar, the Husseiniyeh building in Sunni countries should be stopped. There is a very ulterior motive in the locations and size of these Husseiniyeh. What is the reason to build so many in Countries where they have so few worshippers ?

The Sheikh is right in his fears, if this is allowed to go unchecked, then Egypt within a few decades will face the same sort of instability as in  Syria, Iraq, Bahrain and Lebanon.

Sheikh al Azhar was being polite and considerate by asking the Iranian Ambassador to stop this, he could easily have taken a back seat and allowed the Army and the Salafists to use violence against the Shi'ites.

Are you against new construction only? Or want existing Shia mosques/centers in Sunni countries to be closed also?

Asalaamu alaikum,

My wife is an Egyptian Shi'ite.  She became shia in 2010 alhamdulillah and her family hasn't made any issues for her. They say as long as you are Muslim that is what matters.

They can object to shi'ites being in egypt all they want but they can't stop the egyptian shia from doing whatever they want to as long as they are productive citizens.

Brain is still slow. Try again, ugly monkey.

Why do people who hate Shias on a Shia forum have such mental problems?

I know you will post again for my entertainment, like the good little monkey you are.

The Coptic Church officially asked Egyptian Christians to vote for Ahmad Shafiq, as you know he is an ex-Mubarak PM and staunch enemy of the revolution. Ahmad Shafiq has openly opposed the Revolution. So this means that the Coptic Church has offically announced hat it is opposed to the Revolution and supports the former Mubarak regime.

Do you think this is justifiable ?  This will lead to further marginalization for the Copts.

While Shia mosques are closed down and denounced in Egypt, Syria, Bahrain, Saudi and elsewhere, 10s of SUNNI MOSQUES are built and flourish every day in IRAN and Iraq... and in one time a few years ago the Salafis almost took over the entire city of Baku in Azerbaijan. All with the help of Saudi and other Wahabi Gulf states money.

This is really unacceptable and unfair.

Thats true but now Salafi Mosque is closed, Salafi idiots blowed 'hand grenade' in their own Mosque ( Mosque of Abu Bakr)

They converted many Sunnis to Salafism, Sunnis in Azerbajcan are not 'Azeris' but 'Lazgis'

A group of Salafis in mosque went against other Salafis they were 'Takfiri' Salafis

So they organised an 'attack to mosque' in order to kill the Salafi Imam which called them 'Khawarij'

and one day when people prayed behind Imam in Mosque 'Takfiri' Salafis throwed hand grenade in Mosque (2 people died, 11 injured)
