(bismillah)

(salam)

How would one go about improving their recitation of the Qur'an without a teacher in real life?

Are there any videos, websites, online programmes (free) etc. that could help?

I'm looking for particularly Surah al-Fatiha and Surah Ikhlaas, though the more the better

learn tajweed rules. you can also get colour coded Qur'an with tajweed rules.
They will help improve your recitation insha'Allah

you should first focus on tawjeed which is not difficult, because it is more important.

however, this works well.

Listen and follow and observe trends. Get a colour coded Qur'an to help with tajweed.

What has worked for me and made me pretty fluent in Qira'ah and Tajweed was listening and reciting along to AbdulBasit doing Tarteel. It works wonders, and you both correct your mistakes, and get into the habit of tajweed and tarteel.

Here's my favourite link :).

It is narrated that Imam al-Husayn (as) said:

“Oh Allah, I have left the entire world for the sake of You, And I have orphaned my children so that I be with You. So if I am cut into pieces for the love of You, my heart would lean to none other than You.”

this is the best, advice. pick a surah, like a medium sized one...like sura mulk.

Then listen to a reciter that u like.

Then read along until u kinda sound like the reciter.

here is an awsome website.

http://www.quranexplorer.com/quran/

Choose "indoscript"  instead of usmai.

I would recommend u to choose mishary Rashid as ur Qari as he recites at a good pace and good style as well.

You can also choose to change the script to colour coded if u want to learn the rules.

bon chance.

At the end of the day, you want to be able to open any portion of the Qur'an and recite it properly. Even parts you aren't familiar with. So don't rely heavily on just listening to the established reciters. It will take some time (which you have :P) but it will be worth it.

may Allah bless you for your efforts.

There is also a tajweed course here, I haven't watched all of it, so can't say how effective it is.

Though i'm not really sure how much good it will do to just try to copy someone, we don't all have voices like nightingales
