Salaam Alaikum,
I moved to New Orleans a few months ago. I found a past post from Shia chat from a while back about Shias in New Orleans and the post mentioned the Islamic Message Foundation, I contacted this center and received no reply, it seems from their website that they only really do stuff on Ramadan, Muharaam, and on the weekends they have a school for kids. I was hoping to find out about some kind of weekly program for Shias in New Orleans. Does anyone know of any kind of weekly Shia gatherings in New Orleans? If not a Jummah then maybe something on a certain night or on the weekend besides the kids school?
LoL, I'm starting to feel like the only Shia in New Orleans.
Hope someone can help, InshAllah.
Are There Any Shia Gatherings In New Orleans?

Just to let you know, Salman Khan, who is pretty high on this year's Time 100 list is a Shia from New Orleans. At least that's where his family lives, He might be somewhere in North East.
NO as well as BR has a big Shia community, look up some last names in phone directory. State of Louisiana's CIO was a Shia a few years back, just look up, and you will find many others. LSU also has a big Shia community out there.

Thank you for the information. However I'm still at a loss as having lots of Shia in NO is still no good, with no Shia center that has any activities other than those for Ramadan and Muharaam. I heard there is a Sunni Mosque in Baton Rouge ( called Masjid as Sabiqun ) that is tolerant of Shias and lets them organize in the Masjid on Thursday night. Even something like that would be great in NO, but from what I can see nothing like that really exists here. The IMF seems to be just a school/holiday center and I couldn't reach anyone there anyway.
I'm hoping some Shia Brother or Sister from New Orleans who sees this can direct me somewhere for at least a weekly Shia Jammat, gathering, service etc.. . or tell me no such function exists in NO at this time. I'm hoping thats not the case because the closest Mosque to me is Masjid abu bakr and something about the name tells me they won't be as tolerant as Masjid as Sabiqun in Baton Rouge.
I may try your idea about the phone book but I'm worried people might think I'm a little crazy calling them out of the blue like that.
Thanks for the information though.
