They don't really have weapons. They had swords and knives which was confiscated by the police.

Imagine fighting tanks with kitchen knives. How do you even do that?

It's tough because the policeman are not strictly Shiite Muslims who are crushing the protesters a significant portion are actually Sunni Muslims.

So no matter what, these police are not willing to refrain from beating up or murdering the protesters. They see them as enemies.

If Bahrain I think was a Shiite majority country with a dictator whose background was Shiite and the police force was entirely Shiite, their chances would have been better since some of the Shiite police would refrain from shooting/attacking the protesters.

If anything they are trying to refrain from violence as much as possible. The Bahraini government wants them to be violent so they can manipulate the violence in the media and say this uprsiing is being supported by Iran for the sake of Iran interests. Thats gonna give the government a big pretext to slaughter them even more because they will use the stupid excuse of "stopping Iran's hegemony in the area". I know they are already using this excuse in the media to crush it, but still

Some of them did get a bit violent with little fire bombs, the one in the bottle, but they were told to stop cause it jeaprodizes the whole uprising.
