(salam)
I just wanted to get your opinion on these chadors with sleeves.  I've been making custom order chadors for a time now and recently, a sister asked me to make a sleeved chador for her and while I got the pattern figured out I have never worn one myself, so I'm wondering what is everyone's opinion of this style of Chador.

I know it has become popular in Iran and in the west its now called an over head abaya (when made of other fabrics than the home style ones).

I really love just the old style chador and can't wrap my brain around how these became so popular.

(wasalam)

They seem fine to me. I think it's a good idea. I guess because I was raised in a society where everything has sleeves I'm more used to the idea. Plus I would feel like my arms could move more freely which I'm used to. I think the one in the picture is pretty :)
Err on the side of caution kindness.

Wa aleykum al salaam

I think it would be comfortable, but one has to be careful the sleeve won't slip like in the picture, it's showing a little bit of her arms. Maybe by wearing good covering long sleeves under this chador would prevent it from showing the arms. I like the idea the chador keeps the feet covered as they raise their hands.

It's something to wear during SALAT. Being well covered is something serious, I don't think it would ever go this far as you stated. (at least not during salat)

The one in the picture is for salah and but I've seen other ones that are for every day wear,  I think If I make it for her I might put a band in the sleeve to tighten it up so it doesn't slip back during salah or use.  I guess if I grew up using it or started out using this style of chador I wouldn't be wondering if it would slip or how comfortable it would be.

I have one similar to that for salah and apart from the fact that the head covering bit is poorly made because it has a zip at the front part of the chest and then strings to pull around the head, it is comfortable. Mine has an elasticated sleeve so I don't have to worry about arms showing.

I'm adding the elastic sleeves 100% but I'm not doing a zipper only sowing it up a little up the ways...Insh'Allah once its done I'll post a picture of it so everyone can tell me what they think and if it turns out well then maybe I'll add it to my websitefor sale.

Salam alaikum,

For prayers, I prefer the old style chador.  The rest of the time, I prefer sleeves, because I did not grow up wearing chadors and am clumsy keeping the cloth in place when I try to carry other belongings.

So i made it...it looks like this, I added an image for everyone to see unfortunately my dress mannequin does not have a head so the over head part does not show...I learned how to make it and insha'Allah next time it will look better and after trying it on though I was sold on this...its so easy to wear...

But alas it was an experiment for me and I made it for another sister, Insha'Allah she has received it and likes it...

in Iran , this kind of chador is called "iranian style chador" or "chador e meli" ( national chador) because I think first time they have designed it...
arabic chador also has sleeves but in different way.
