Salaam

For any of those who follow the sunnah of the Prophet (saw) and put kohl on the eyes at night:  how do you take it off in the morning for wudhu before Fajr? Washing it with just water doesn't completely remove it.

thanks in advance

Soap and water usually does the trick, or makeup remover. Then use a q-tip with some makeup remover to get the smudges under and around your lashes out.
"The best thing [about hijab] is that at night, when you're alone, you see your beautiful hair and beautiful body and know that Allah swt has blessed you with such beauty. And you feel proud of that beauty, it's all yours since you don't have to share it with anyone. But when you put on that hijab of Fatima Zahra and Zaynab sa, this beauty isn't yours. This beauty is theirs and it makes you feel elevated and honored. It makes me feel even more beautiful.

And when I observe my hijab, it makes me feel like the most courageous soldier on this Earth. To have the hijab of Zaynab!!! Dear Lord, it gives me power! No one can understand the energy running through my veins."

Doesn't oil create a barrier which prevents water from reaching the skin?

Well you could rinse the olive oil off with soap and water but using olive oil as a makeup remover is a great idea. It's quick and effective.

But can't you then just rinse off the kohl with soap and water? Or would it be more effective if you first remove the kohl with olive oil and then remove the olive oil with the soap and water?

a cosmetic powder used, originally esp in Muslim and Asian countries, to darken the area around the eyes. It is usually powdered antimony sulphide.

Yes and it slows aging too. I have been massaging my face with olive oil for years now.....i use a few drops of it instead of store bought moisturizer then splash some cold water on my face and let it dry (also good for hands). It doesn't make your face break out as long as you wash your face with a good face wash twice a day....it is also said to have antimicrobial properties so that is probably another reason it doesn't really make you break out. Anyway I am 33 and almost everyone that I know who is my age has fine lines and wrinkles.....except me. It is great for eczema too, at least it worked on my son's eczema. It was horrible poor thing, but I began applying olive oil to him after his bath while he is still wet and letting air dry, I also try to add a few spoons to his diet every day........the eczema is gone :D.

I just read the ingredients on that link......the khol has zinc oxide in it, this is probably why it is so beneficial.....zinc is great for the immune system.

No it doesn't create a barrier....it soaks into your skin quite well believe it or not, and you can always wash before prayer if you are paranoid about it.

I use it to remove make up and kohl, it works amazingly but didn't know you can use it as a moistriser too, I'll try those tips you mentioned. mashaAllah it's good to hear it worked well for you. thank you 7abibti.

Ohh wow shukran! I think I can visit some arab stores here, they must have it, or else just get in Iraq xD

Sayed Sistani says this about kohl:

A woman is allowed to use antimony (kohl) on her eyelashes and wear rings in both hands, provided that it is not intended for drawing lustful attention of men towards herself and that she is confident of not getting into a harãm act. Otherwise, it is obligatory on her to cover [the eyes that have kohl and the hands with rings] even from those who are mahram to her.

So I  guess it's ok to wear kohl during the day right? Ofcourse not with the intention to draw attention etc.
I always thought wearing kohl infront of non mahrams was haram until i came across this exact fatwa of sayed Sistani whom I follow as well. sayed Sistani says its okay but make sure you're not putting too much of it cos it will attract attention. I believe eyes are more attractive with kohl than without it, so just be cautions inshaAllah.

Yeah, same here :P For me it has became more of a habit to put it on. I only put it on my upper eyelid though. You're right, putting too much will draw attention for sure. I've seen girls wo draw their eyes like they're going to some party or something, it's too much indeed. Thanks sis :)
Insha'Allah khair
Ive seen those types of girls too. wearing a hijab and lots of kohl don't go together really. whatever that drives attention is of course haram and the opposite of what's hijab for. your welcome sister :)

Yes but don't slap it on like lotion. A few drops on the fingertips massaged around the eyes, mouth, and any other dry areas. Follow with splashes of cool water and rub it into the rest of the face until it is completely dry and absorbed. If you do this you should avoid having a film left on your face.

just wondering but what counts as "too much?" Putting it on the bottom part of the eye or only like when girls put it on both the bottom, top, and make a wing shape at the end of the eyes?

Any kind of oil, I use baby oil, apply a little on a cotton ball. Then I wash my face with a cleanser, a scrub, and then use a moisturizer. (Which you do not have to do all of that, just the cleanser would do).
I like baby oil because it is just mineral oil with fragrance. It also removes waterproof mascara or any other make-up. :)

Salam..

Im having a big problem with kohl/kajal..i don't wear any due to having to d0 wudu..
I have himalayas and lakme kajal (both look like black lipsticks) and I think mum has a new one from Pakistan (the powder)..

I can put them on - makes my face look alive :P , but then how to pray zuhr and asr at work? Thats the problem..coz i barely have time to do wudu and pray (hiding), but if i have to take off the kohl everytime, it will be a problem..

so far i've only ever used purely natural kohl (which i dont know if i can get again..its over), or well, don't put it unless i'm out for a major dinner etc..(in which case i put himalayas or lakme - are those natural btw? any ideas?)

My mum sees these other Muslim young girls my age with beautifully done eye-makeup, lip makeup, foundation etc (not overdone, but elegant) and keeps telling me to do it..i would love to do just the kohl and hopefully some concealer - my under-eye veins are showing too much recently:'(, but what about wudu then? lip balm is easy coz it comes off soon anyway..
if i can do a little more makeup also, to look presentable at ladies only functions etc (and not attracting men that way though ofcourse), then again - wudu is the problem if its time for prayers inbetween or even the next morning, since it doesnt seem to get off usually unless i really rub hard..
anyone know any way to combat this issue?

Oh and i always have the same problem with kohl - it never goes off completely with eye make-up remover or water...will try the olive oil trick inshaAllah next time:)

what if it does not involve any unnatural or haram ingredients ? even than we can't put it on ?
