This limits the search engine's efficiency a lot (limiting that all words should be atleast 4 letters long.)

Actually, the character limit is fine. Just think what would happen if we allow people to seach entering less than three characters or blank space.

If I were you, just Google what you're looking for.
Type your search followed by 'site:shiachat.com'.

In cases like these, try and remember some words from the posts within the threads which are at least 4 letters long. It shouldn't be too hard.

If this is not possible, do what Replicant suggested.

If you're searching for a specific phrase, enclose it in quotes i-e  "The Lol Topic"

Blank searches are ussually wild card searches. So if you search on a blank field the system will fetch every single rows in the database (because it matches every topics). You don't want to get millions of results returned because this will degrade system performance.

I just use google instead of the shiachat search

Go to the google search bar and type

site:shiachat.com your search phrase

Oops I should have read the entire thread first

But I think you have to type site:shiachat before the searchphrase.....at least that is how I have always done it. (but I could be wrong )

I think SC search is a total failure. I hardly ever get what I look for. (It is easier to find it with the help of the omniscient Google). I am seasoned internet searcher otherwise. But SC fails me.
