Salaams,

Someone asked me why Shia's can't pray taraweeh in Jamaat and I told them we're not allowed to pray sunnat prayers in congregation; the follow up question was why we're allowed then to pray Juma prayers in Jamaart.

Does anyone have any answers (with sources preferably).

I don't think I was clear- my question is: Why are we allowed to pray Juma salaat (from what I know it's not wajib) in Jamaat?

Allah SWT says in the Holy Qur'an, in Surah Jum'ah, to go to Friday prayer:

íóÇ ÃóíõøåóÇ ÇáóøÐöíäó ÂãóäõæÇ ÅöÐóÇ äõæÏöíó áöáÕóøáóÇÉö ãöäú íóæúãö ÇáúÌõãõÚóÉö ÝóÇÓúÚóæúÇ Åöáóìٰ ÐößúÑö Çááóøåö æóÐóÑõæÇ ÇáúÈóíúÚó ۚ Ðóٰáößõãú ÎóíúÑñ áóßõãú Åöäú ßõäúÊõãú ÊóÚúáóãõæäó {9}

[Shakir 62:9] O you who believe! when the call is made for prayer on Friday, then hasten to the remembrance of Allah and leave off trading; that is better for you, if you know.

The Holy Prophet SA used to pray Jum'ah salaat, and the Imams AS prayed Jum'ah prayer also. During the time of the occultation of Imam Zaman AJ, some people believe that praying Jum'ah is not wajib. They believe you can say Zohr prayer instead of Jum'ah prayer. However, some of the Maraje say that even though Jum'ah prayer is not wajib, people should participate in it and not be deprived of the blessings gained through attending the prayer.

There is a famous saying by the Holy Prophet SA: Salat of Jum'ah is Hajj for the poor. Every Friday there is a Hajj and `Umrah for you - on Friday to go for the Jum'ah prayers is Hajj and to wait after al-Jum'ah for `Asr prayers is `Umrah.

According to our traditions we see Quran orders our holy prophet and people to say Jumah payer and what we see in the history is that our holy prophet ordered people to say this prayer ALWAYS in Jama'at because it was a good opportunity for Muslims to gather together and their leader informs them about the important issues and make their unity stronger... and it's a sunnah that we got from our holy prophet...

Jum`a prayer _is_ a wajib prayer, it is not only a sunna one.  The thing is though that for it to be established, certain conditions must be met.

Indeed. The different views we have out there are in regards to whether the 'imaam of Salaat has to be the ma'soom 'imaam or just any one fit to lead Salaat, correct?

the Imam of Jumah must have some qualifications for that, like not being a Fasiq, or a criminal, or...
so in the age of disappearance of Imam Masoum, these imams can be the Imam of Jumah prayer...

That shouldn't have been the answer to that question in the first place.

Shi`as do not perform the Taraweeh prayers because they are an innovation and the Prophet did not perform them (at least in the manner Sunnis perform them today).
