Bismehe Ta3ala,

Assalam Alikum.

A new show on TLC will premeire tommorrow showing Muslims in America.  Many of the families shown are Shia Muslims.  It is disturbing to say the least of what I saw in the trailers.  It bothers me greatly to see this show going on nationwide to portray Islam incorrectly yet again.

I wouldn't care if the show made it about Arab Americans and the culture.  But why a show about Muslims and Islam?  To make it seem it is okay that one of the Muslims wants to own a club?  That belly dancing in a mixed wedding is fine?  That kissing and other forms of PDA is allowed in Islam?

Dearborn has many positive and good aspects of it, but this TV show is not one of them-far from it.

I'll watch it.  I'm interested in seeing what is actually played on the show.  Perhaps the commercials have been made to get people's attention?

I mean, its about muslims in america because its a hot topic.  Who doesnt want to watch a show about muslims in america? i wanna see it and im not even muslim.  If the guy coaches football then he coaches football, if the muslimah wants to go to a club then she wants to go to the club.  The point is youre getting a perspective from muslims in america, the Islamic side, the non Islamic side, and everything in between.  Because realistically this is who people are.  And thats pretty cool.  We want realism.  This isnt Saudi Arabia or Iran, we want America and we want an Islamic perspective.

Throw in couple of arm chaired jihadis.

And couple of trolls that only know how to insult (many on this site).

That I would watch.

This is just another way to for the TV industry to make a bunch of money, it's one of them shows about people in real life where the cameras follow them but at the same time it's like a drama.

Stuff like belly dancing is not in Islam its from culture.

This show is All Americans with their Middle Eastern Culture not All American Muslims. Sure they may be Muslims I am not saying they aren't but the show is more representing them being Cultural and American not Islamic and American in my opinion

Theres no such thing as anti Islam propaganda when it comes to shows like these.  Its all about controversial topics that people will enjoy watching.  If they wanted to show anti Islamic shows, theyd simply have recordings of fundamentalists.  Instead theyre filming liberals because its more entertaining, and its something we all can relate to.  Based on the trailer, i can relate to these muslims, and therefore i will be more willing to accept muslims in my society, hence the reason the show is created so light heartedly and in such support of these people.

Not that i am particularly against muslims, but obviously americans can be a bit on edge about what muslims are bringing to the country.

So, if anything, this show is good.  Good for the muslims and non muslims in America.  It brings us together, which is what its all about.

They seem to all be showing off too, well I know they are showing off because I live in Dearborn and it is very boring. But I could be wrong, what do I know....I am an antisocial housewife and I only associate with my (coffee drinking partners) neighbors :D

I watched the trailer and it seems like an accurate portrayal of a certain click or group in Dearborn( the second or third generation marginally  religious ill be Muslim as long as it doesn't interfere with my lifestyle crowd ). It would probably be interesting to watch if wasn't for the belly dancing and short skirts. O know some will say that they had to do that because it is commercial television but I won't be watching it and that is why and I would probably recommend to the brs not to watch it either. If they release a non belly dancing and micro mini skirt edition ill watch it. I don't see that happening any time soon though

Hadith #32.

With my continuous chain of transmission reaching up to Muhammad ibn Ya'qub al-Kulaynl, from al-Husayn ibn Muhammad, from al-Mu'alla ibn Muhammad, from al-Hasan ibn 'All al-Washsha', from 'Abd Allah ibn Sinan, from Abu 'Abd Allah, may Peace be upon him, which he said:

"Among the things pertaining to the soundness of a Muslim's certitude [in faith] is that he would not please people while displeasing God, nor blame them for something that God has not given him. For, verily, [God's] rizq (provision, sustenance) is not brought about by anybody's greed, nor is it withheld by anyone's disapproval, and were anyone of you to flee from his rizq like he flees death, his rizq would overtake him in the way he is overtaken by death." Then he added, "Indeed Allah with His justice and fairness, has put joy and comfort in certainty (yaqin) and satisfaction (al- rida) and He has put sorrow and grief in doubt and dissatisfaction."

I wasn't interested in watching but my friend convinced me to try it out--I just finished watching the first episode and I have no desire to tune in next week... or the week after... or the next week. It's pretty dumb. A waste of anyone's time.

I watched it...I doubt I will be watching it next week. Everyone acted very fake and one  man converted to Islam to marry this girl. I don't even know what the point in him converting was because she is not even a practicing muslim....it was just to please her family mostly. It was sad really.

Bismehe Ta3ala,

Assalam Alikum.

Sister, because then her marriage in the "eyes" of Islam would be illegitmate if he didn't convert.

I think Nawal did a good job explaning in this FOX interview, of how some Muslims will follow some rules and how they won't practice other rules.  I wish this line would be explained on the show as well.

They explained the main reason for doing this show is to let America think and feel, "Oh, these Muslims are just like us.  They take care of their families, and like football, and even go clubing."  lol

The take home message for this show is they are American as apple pie.  :D

Anyways, speaking in terms of identity, I would never identify myself first as American or any another nationality in front of my religion.

Bismehe Ta3ala,

Assalam Alikum and 3id al Ghadeer Mubarak to you.

Yes, I know some of them personally.  They are part of the congregation of the Islamic Center of America and active in other centers as well.  I hope during Friday prayers we will hear the opinions of the mashayakh or the sayyid mention this show and give their opinion.  But I highly doubt it.  Unfortunatly, because they don't want to offend those who support the center financially.  Allah swt knows best.
