assalamualaikum..

i want to know how am i supposed to cover my feet while walking in the crowd..if i wear pants/maxi/long skirt, should i wear socks? for ur information i am always wear covered shoe (ballerina kind of shoe) kindly share ur opinion. may Allah bless u.TQ

Q56 - Is it wajib upon the woman to cover her two feet in front of the ajnabi or are they exceptions from the obligation of covering like the face and hands?

A- It is wajib to cover them.


And in a follow up question the response is:

يجب على المرأة ستر القدمين عن غير المحارم .

It is wajib upon the woman to cover the two feet from the non-mahram.

ANSWER:

The ruling for hijab outside includes covering the feet. As for the dress
for Ladies for namaaz, covering of the soles is recommended.

Hijab - Unbearable to wear socks

QUESTION:

I would like to ask the following question regarding Ayat Seestani's
fatwa for covering the feet for women.

I follow Ayat Seestani's taqleed but I never used to cover the top of my
feet as i have never worn socks and find it too hot and unbearable to
wear socks. I did not know UNTIL recently that the upper part of feet to
cover is a must.

Can I follow the taqleed of another marjia for this particular issue i.e
who allows the feet to remain uncovered. If I am not mistaken Imam
Khomeini allowed it. But can i follow of a dead marjia. If not, is there
any other living marjia who allows this i.e if i am allowed to deviate
from this point.

ANSWER:

On this issue, you have to follow the ruling of Ayatullah Seestani.

I am not aware of any Marja who allows the baring of the feet in Hijab.

Tabrizi (if his rissaleh is available to you) for the following question:

Is it necessary that a woman cover the upper part of her feet, up to ankle
in front of a non-Mahram man? I know that this part is not required to be
covered in prayers, but I couldn't find whether it should be covered in
front of men, or not. What about the sole of the feet?

ANSWER:


Salaamun 'Alaykum;

Ayatullah Seestani states that a woman should conceal her body & hair from
non-mahram man. She is allowed to leave her hands and face upto the wrists
uncovered in the presence of na-mahram porvided it does notlead to lustful
glances. I trust this will answer the question as to what must be covered
and what can remain uncovered. I do not have the risala of Ayat Tabrizi.

I don't think this is the accurate opinion of Ayt Sistani. Alseraj is a reliable website, however they have a note below the fatawa box saying that the responses don't always reflect the updated opinion of the Sayed-also most of time the responses come from different offices which sometimes differ from each other. As far as I know, Sayed allows only top part of feet to be exposed in salat, provided no non mahrams are present.

and what do you do when there is limited space in your house and a na mahram comes in, you can cover your head, body n hands but one can't immediately jump to reach out the socks in front of him....what do I do ???

Cover your feet before starting the prayer to ensure that doesnt happen

No, I try to pray bang on time and also when the guest knows someone is praying they prefer waiting outside but when there is a family gathering or he comes to visit us and I cannot get hold of my socks and wear in front of them..You see, there are times when if a woman is being too proper about her hijab, people find it rude...As in, I can do everything easily but the feet hijab seems like an non achievable goal!!!

Just put a pair of socks next to where you pray, and before starting prayer wear the socks, then after prayer you can take them off again.

as far as i know you only have to cover until your ankles not your whole foot,
your allowed to show your face hands and feets.
can somebody explain to me why you would cover that when Allah allowed you to show it?

Salam Alaikum  It is good to hear this topic brought up some people muslims seem to look at me strange when I did not want to wear sandals in public.
I did not want to show my feet even though many people male and female were doing it. In a muslim country I visited. I  wear boots that cover my feet completly.
I also cover my chin and I am a convert. I learned to do this by hearing the comments women's husbands would make about chins showing and women showing their feet.  and then lator realized it was sunna of Prophet (A.S). But now it is normal for me.
