Salam just have a quick question. Why are we allowed to show pictures of Imam Ali? He is the only Imam that we show pictures of and it is forbidden to depict prophets and most ahlul bayt have their face blanked out or hidden in pictures except for Imam Ali. ????????????

S/A Dear Brother,

It's not just Imam Ali (as) but the rest of the Imams as well as other Divine Personalities such as Hazrat Abbas (as). There are plenty of pictures of Imam Husayn (as) as well. They are simply artist depictions but are in no way accurate of the actual person, I believe it's alright to depict the Prophets and Messengers (Peace be upon all of them) along with the Imams (PBUT) as long as their faces are covered and they are depicted with dignity and respect.

The Second Commmandment:

Quote

Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
No images/photos so forth are allowed. We only worship Allah, and if we make images, then if things are lost in futurre, then the future generations might takes theses images as iamge of Allah and start worshiping them.

So, is the Holy Quran is preversed in two ways, the written and oral. If all the Qurans are lost in future, we still have them memorized and the Holy Quran is preversed for the furture generations.

No, I don't hate Yazid at the moment. There is a lot of dispute as to whether he ordered killing Al-Hussain within Ahlul Sunnah. So, I don't have a solid opinion about this issue yet.

How can the Shabi of your Imam be haraam to you ? Where do you get these commandements from ?

When Imam Mahdi (as) arrives,Insh'Allah will you say it is haraam to see him ?? We all as Shia' are waiting to see him

So posting it is haraam to see the Imam's painting / sketch etc. is a display of your mis information.

Coming to the word "haraam" It is HARAAM to disrespect the Imam's in any manner be it their pics etc.You can have a sketch of the Imam's in your Azakhana as long as it is covered with a green cloth in purdah and as long as there is no disrespect towards the same.

During my visit to Iraq for Ziyarat, I had noticed that there were different "carpet" type images of the Imam's which were laid on the ground on a plastic sheet -- that would mean disrepect to the image of the Imams and should be avoided (I am certain that this is no more continued in  Iraq)

So if you have the opportunity to carry an image of your imam, I would think you should and put it up in your Azakhana with your Alam and Zam Zam water.

The beautiful Second Commandment is from the TaNaKh, from the Old Testament, from the Holy Bible.

Shahab Zaman is alive in this world within us, and we will see him and not his image. Even some people have seen miracles performed by our imams, our Bibi, our prophet, and these people are alive and not dead. So, seeing them alive is an honor for us, but images are forbidden.

my guess is if there were digital photographs or film photographs documented 100% to be them, then it would not be haram (my guess again) .. the problem arises with misinterpretation of the actual person .. or actually misrepresentation . .. there is the danger of not doing justice to the real person, especially the spirit and body language and radiation .. as well as background defining location .. honest location in space and time. .. that's y am personally against personifying and creating images of people who lived looooong ago .. the picture drawn by an artist usually reflects the artist .. so that's another bias in representing holy people of the past. i am not sure about what i am saying, but i hope to God it makes sense.

brothers, i have replied to a similar post to this, it is haraam to create an image that you believe it to be will make some one else to believe it is the actual image of that holy personality, there are many hadith that describe certain features of lets use imam ali (as), an artist can use this description to create his image, so if the authentic hadith sais something about imam ali (as) hair, then he may use this, but every thing else on their face must be hidden or portrayed as light, thankyou

my sources are straight from iyatullah sistani

(bismillah)

Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth. The example of His light is like a niche within which is a lamp, the lamp is within glass, the glass as if it were a pearly [white] star lit from [the oil of] a blessed olive tree, neither of the east nor of the west, whose oil would almost glow even if untouched by fire. Light upon light. Allah guides to His light whom He wills. And Allah presents examples for the people, and Allah is Knowing of all things.
