The conference will also launch a campaign to endow a chair for the study of Shi’i Islam at Hartford Seminary.

Heads of Islamic centers, mosques and associations across North America will also be in attendance

This conference will bring together leading scholars of Shi’i Islam to share perspectives on their rich heritage within the broader Islamic world, and to identify efforts to increase interest in the study of Shi’i Islam in North America. The conference will also launch a campaign to endow a chair for the study of Shi’i Islam at Hartford Seminary, the first such chair in North America.

I don't like to say negative things at ShiaChat, but my silence may make people think this conference is a great religious event. Wherever Haqq is, Batil will be beside it. Wherever Islam is, Shaytan will be beside it. I don't know about the other speaker and the rest of the participants, but I wouldn't walk across the street to listen to Sayyed Hossein Nasr or Abdolkarim Soroush.

This conference has been conceived as an entirely apolitical event, and is intended to celebrate shi'i Islam as one expression of faithful Islam, not to focus on differences or divisions that may exits in some places with our sunni brothers and sisters. The diversity of our invited speakers and participants is a reflection of our desire for inclusivity and harmony amoung Islam's legal and
theological traditions.

Nobody could complain if SHN will only speak about Imam Ali AS. However, other things he believes in and espouses are what would be objectionable. Hoping that the event will be apolitical as you say, but the very fact that Abdolkarim Soroush is one of the announced participants sours that idea for me. May I ask what do you mean by stating that your religion is usa?

Insha’Allah – All the speaker and participants should stay focus on their topic. We don’t want to here their personal political opinion. Thank for pointing out my religion, Alhamdulillah I am a proud Shia Muslim. Just did not set the profile and default to USA

Ok, glad that you cleared that up. I suppose that SHN's presentation will be filmed. Will he have that free on his website or will he be selling DVD's?
