Well... I was raised in a strict Christian family so i never really knew what Islam was growing up. I always had issues with the doctrine I was taught though. I did not believe in the trinity... no matter how hard I tried... and I DID try, I wanted so badly to fit in with my family... I just couldn't believe it. So I thought I was just a very bad Christian. About a year or so ago, I stumbled onto a website about Islam. I couldn't stop reading about it. It was what I always believed about Allah swt. I just never knew there was a name for my beliefs or a place where I would fit in. And so, I said my shahada. I've been a Muslimah for one year now

Douche much man? I was simply asking for AbuLayla's story, not trying to change the history of literature.
Salaam,
For me it was quite a complicated story. I can only say in the simplest of terms that i was given a message, at the very least a sign. I was pretty much in the greatest of despair emotionally then i have ever been in.
I have many sins which i need to make up for in my life, finally now i know what i need to do.
This post conveys alot of what i may just be regurgitating here.
Any input in either post would be appreciated, as i am fascinated by the experiences people had when they first found themselves absorbing Islam.

before that i actually started getting into reading christian new testament and was into that. i grew up in a christian family but did not ever really sit down and read the new testament until i was in my late teens.
My dad though was i would say the first to tell me who Allah is. when i was young he had a record of a band that titled contained Allah in it and i asked him due to knowing this who Allah is, and he told me God.

'O day, arise! The atoms are dancing.
Thanks to Him the universe is dancing.
The souls are dancing, overcome with ecstasy.
I'll whisper in your ear where their dance is taking them...
All the atoms in the air and in the desert Know well, they seem insane.
Every single atom, happy or miserable,
Becomes enamoured of the sun, of which nothing can be said'

no one told me sunni or shia. I just stumbled across it. Like many reverts i have been doing my own research and study so u can say i brain washed my self
If the followers of the A.B spent more time discussing the family and their amazing standards rather than wasting time cursing and using absolutely disgraceful swear words against the sahaba as i have read on you tube reviews and was horrified at the usage of words God knows how more sunnis would look into this
i am sorry but you guys need to review your priorities .. how many potential followers of the A.B have you turned away ???
so sad

right from my childhood i was intrested in politics histroy and to study various cultures...
i was a devout hindu but in my late teens i was wondering about the rituals of hinduism and the concept of god
soon i releaised that how ignorant was i to worship the idols
ex-ganesh festival ; hindus worship this half elephant half man idol for 9 days and then 'throw"(nimarjan) it in sea or river
this couldnt sink in my mind and made no sense to me as to why we do this ...........
then i started learning about christianity,buddism,judaism,......also islam
but speaking frankly i had prejudices about this religion, but as i was giong through the biography of the holy prophet (saww)
i was impressed and made me think
but didnt made my mind to convert yet
i was still in investigating and exploring the religion
i found very fasinating and yet simple rituals in the religion
the five basic principles
so i was in this state of transition when i was confused about shiism and sunni
then again i started exploring the books in my college library, wikipedia, youtube, google and ofcourse with my muslim friends(sunnis).........slowly i began to realise the deen
let me put it this way
reasons for me to be muslim-
prophet muhammad saww biography
simple rituals in islam

"Sometimes you find requests are not immediately granted. Do not be disappointed. Fulfillment of desires rest in the true purpose or intention of the prayer. More often fulfillment is delayed because merciful Lord wants to bestow upon you suitable rewards. In the meantime bear patiently hardships, believing sincerely in His help. You will get better favours, because, unknowingly you may ask for things which are really harmful to you. Many of your requests, if granted, may bring eternal damnation. So at times, withholding fulfillment is a blessing in disguise."

Mashallah Sister, May Allah give you reward.
In my opinion you can start with usool e deen first.
1.First of all comes Existance of Allah and its attributes. In this regard I have an excellent quote by Imam Khomeinei
"It is intellectually clear and every body knows it intuitively that anything the existence and
non-existence of which is equally possible, cannot come into existence automatically and that
there must be an external force to bring it into existence. The first cause of bringing into
existence all possibly existing things must be an eternal and self-existing being. If it is
supposed that the imaginary upper space, and it must be imaginary because it is a non-entity,
has always existed, then it possibly can neither automatically turn into anything nor anything
can come into existence in it automatically. The assertion of some people that in the
beginning the whole world was an infinite vacuum (anything being infinite is questionable in
itself) in which subsequently appeared a sort of steam from which everything has originated,
does not stand to reason, for without an external cause no new thing can appear nor can one
thing change into another thing. For example, water does not freeze nor does it boil without
an external cause. If its temperature remains constant and does not go below 0 degrees nor
above 100 degrees it will always remain water. In short, the existence of an external cause is
essential for every change. Similarly nothing the existence of which is only possible can come
into existence without an external cause. These facts are self-evident truths."
2. Adal.
Adal means Allah is perfect. His creation is perfect. Even so much studies have done by scientists so far yet no one have ever been able to find a single fault in his creation (nature) so far.
3. Nabuwat.
God creation is perfect in every way but there is something which is not perfect and that thing is human desires and soul. Which has left unperfect for a purpose. To make them in image of Allah, Allah have sent prophets to guide people and give them books.
Then explain prophet hood of Muhammad
For this purpose I have a very good Quote by Imam Ali Rida (a.s).
"Among the true reasons of his prophethood is that the Prophet was an orphan, a poor shepherd
and a worker who had not read any books and had not been taught; yet, he brought a book in
which there are the stories of prophets and the information regarding both past and future
generations."
4. Imamat:-
There were times when there were no Prophet in those times, Imams were the source to guide people. It is logical in every matter. There are many ahadees about Imamat. So you can prove it.
5. Qiyamat:
It has been established that Allah is Just. The world began one day and anything which begins must end one day. Thus this world will end one day and Men will be judged according to their deeds. It is the fear of this day which forces a man to do good and stop evil.
As you have noticed this approach is purely based on pure logic nothing else. I think this should be the way.
If I am wrong somewhere please forgive me.

I was raised Christian, but I never understood the idea of Jesus (a.s.) being the son of God. I remember at age 16 sitting in the pew going through the hymnal looking for hymns that did not mention Jesus being the son of God, and finding 2: Amazing Grace and Blest Be the Tie, and thinking that I could only really sing these. I did not know anything about Islam at the time.
Later when I went away to college and met the man who would become my husband, alhamdullilah, I learned about Islam, and it made perfect sense: the unity of God, His Justice, all the Prophets (a.s) being valid, and so forth. And the daily prayers and fasting provided a discipline and a constant returning to Allah (s.w.t.) that Christianity did not have. Then, later when I went to Hajj, I felt almost a second conversion, or perhaps I should say a deepening of my understanding.
