The link between Imam Hussein (as) and Imam Al-Mahdi (atf)

Join us this Thursday for Dua Kumayl, followed by a discussion circle led by Ahmed Al-Khaja, looking at Sheikh Shomali's interpretation of the link between Imam Hussein (as) and Imam Al-Mahdi (atf), based on the lectures he gave this Muharram.

What do the narrations tell us about the link between Imam Hussein (as) and Imam Al-Mahdi and how we can understand this relationship? Why would Imam Al-Mahdi (atf), with his universal mission, put the issue of Imam Hussein (as) at the top of his agenda? In light of the understanding put forward by Sheikh Shomali, what is our role as university students in preparing for the advent of Imam Al-Mahdi (atf)? Come and share your views!

Date: Thursday 19th January 2012
Time: 5:30pm - 20:00pm (starting with Dua Kumayl)
Venue: Room SB4, 188 Tottenham Court Road, London, W1T 7PH

Refreshments will be served.

year.

Following the success of MYH's core service, Mohammed launched the first online forum for British Muslim youth (
www.muslimyouth.net) in 2004, which challenges cultural stigma around social issues and promotes civic engagement amongst young people.

From 2005-2007 Mohammed was appointed to the Board of Trustees of UnLtd, the Foundation of Social Entrepreneurs (www.unltd.org.uk), which holds an endowment of £100 million from the Millennium Trust.

In 2005, he also setup Ansar Youth Project (www.ansaryouth.org.uk), a community based model in faith and culturally sensitive youth-work, where he worked until 2009.

Mohammed is the founder and director of Al-Mizan Charitable Trust, the UK’s first Muslim grant-funder, which offers direct financial support to individuals and families undergoing economic hardship, regardless of their faith, culture or background.

A graduate of Arabic and Islamic Studies from St. John's College, Oxford, Mohammed is currently working towards and MA in Islamic Studies at SOAS.

For more information regarding Mohammad Sadiq Mamdani here is an article from 2004 explaining his magnificent work with Muslim Youth Helpline(MYH):

Imperial Ahlul Bayt Islamic Society is proud to present "TAQLEED; Your Questions Answered!'

We are pleased to welcome Sheikh Arif Hussein and Jaffer Ladak to what we hope to be formatted not as a lecture, but rather an interactive discussion and pseudo-question time format.

The discussion will be mediated by the chair and the two speakers will be posed the following questions:

1 - What is the logical foundation of taqleed?
2 - What is the islamic foundation of taqleed?
3 - How does one choose who to follow? Is it based on knowledge? How is this gaged?
4 - Surely one should follow someone who can relate to their living situation in the west?
5 - Should we follow everything that is said blindly?
6 - How much intellect are we allowed to use?
7 - Must we follow them on everything or is it just related to fiqh?
8 - What is the future of merja'iya

Of course we will then open the floor to questions so that any other ideas, thoughts, nail-biting questions you have been itching to ask since forever can be answered now on this topic. DO NOT MISS OUT ON THIS GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY.

It will be held on THURSDAY 23rd FEBRUARY
Lecture Theatre G20, Royal School of Mines (RSM)

5:30 pm - Introduction and refreshments
5:40 pm - Quran
5:45 pm - Chair mediated discussion
7:45 pm - Q&A
8:00 pm - Refreshments

We hope to see you all to what promises to be the event of the year :)

sometimes I wish I was a student again (but in this generation!). we had non of this in the 90s

I've got a question you can pose to the speakers.

'what is your view on taqleed in matters of islamic doctrines?'

'is there a difference between a Marja' of Fiqh and a Marja' of Deen?'

;)

(salam)
Very good questions thecontented and a topic Sayed Kamal el Haidary addresses frequently in many of his programmes!

He says that in terms taqleed in matters of Islamic doctrines, that which many call Usool ul deen, it must be broken down into two parts.
In fact he refers to Usool ul deen as Aqaid (that which requires belief/faith in) and Furoo3 ul Deen as Al Amal (that which requires action in).
He says in terms of Aqaid/Usool it is broken down into Aqaid which are of primary importance, Rukns of aqaid, i.e foundations. and furoo3 of Aqaid i.e. secondary topics.

For example, A Rukn in Aqaid would be the belief that there are 12 Imams. If someone asks why do you believe in 12 Imams, it is not permissible for you to say "oh because I am doing taqlid of this person" This is because this matter is a RUKN - a pillar/foundation and one needs to believe in it himself not through taqlid.

However, a matter like the knowledge of the Imams. Does that increase after they receive Imamate? What is the extent of their knowledge? Does their knowledge increase periodically? These matters are furoo3 of Imamate; Secondary topics within Imamate and Sayed believes that taqlid of an expert (who is an expert in that field, not fiqh!) is permissible.

Quote

'is there a difference between a Marja' of Fiqh and a Marja' of Deen?'

Another very great question and a topic the Sayed has been vocal about as I am sure you know. There should be a distinction made most certainly!

A Marja' of Deen is a Marja' of Fiqh but a Marja' of Figh is not necessarily a Marj'a of Deen ;)

Another very great question and a topic the Sayed has been vocal about as I am sure you know. There should be a distinction made most certainly!

A Marja' of Deen is a Marja' of Fiqh but a Marja' of Figh is not necessarily a Marj'a of Deen ;)

exactly, and I'm hoping you would be brave enough to get the discussion started in my absence ;)

I'm a strong advocate of Seyyed Kamal's views (and a muqallid), and would've loved to hear what others thought on the matter.

ISLAM: A Religion of Violence and Oppression?
Wednesday, 22 February 2012
18:00 until 20:00
Room 101, Foster Court, UCL, Gower Street, WC1E 6BT

Speaker: Hajji Hussain

In a diverse world; where tolerance, understanding and appreciation of religion, faith and culture, serve as the core foundation of our global community, Islam continues to be the only Abrahamic faith that is linked to violence, oppression and terrorism. Exploring the foundations of this faith, and its violent and explosive episodes, we hope to better understand the essence of Islam, and its divorce from its principles, so that we may reach an informed decision on 'what is Islam' and what it is not.

Hajji Hussain,is a graduate in Media and PR and a part-time lecturer in Islamic history and philosophy. Having recently completed lectures in Europe and the States, his current focus is on inter-faith dialogue, social issues and media analysis.

Refreshments will be served!
