As salam alaikum wa rahmatullah wa barakatu.

Bismillah.

Alhamdulillah im muslim now for nearly 9 years...of recent weeks i became shia.

To cut the story short, i was sunni muslim for 8 years, faced many problems with different levels of sunni muslims but after years of sorrow and facing rigid abuse from being prevented from going to masjid, house arrest for 2.5 years and verbal and mental abuse at the hands of people who preached islam but didnt follow.  I live in a country (not my birth country) that i love soo much and whose people has hosted me with love, open heart and kindness for nearly 20 years. A few months ago the winds changed in this country and i was still sunni but Allah Swt  got me thinking about my life as a sunni and how the things i have faced were most probably for better reasons..after thought and tears reading a few simple books and watching the agression around me from the hands of the people who say they follow the Sunnah of Rasool Allah pbuh.. i decided that i no longer wanted to be the sunni person i had been for 8 yrs...and embraced shia islam.

Its been 2 months alhamdulillah since i embraced being shia, i feel so much calmer and happier than i have in a very long time. I feel shia islam is right for me from the basic things i have read about women's rights, children's rights and the general daily interactions of shia women.   Id be so greatful inshaAllah if any sisters could help me along the way. I am praying as a shia alhamdulillah and i was taught by a shia how to make wudhu. Ramadhan is not so far away and id like to know if there is anything important i need to achieve or do in this Holy month.

InshaAllah i have caused no offence to anyone, if so am dearly sorry. AsghfirAllah.

May Allah be with us all & guide us always to that which pleases him ameen. Allah humma salli ala Mohammed wa ala Alee Mohammed ameen.

Fee aman Allah.

Allahu Akbar, Alhamdulillah, SubhanAllah. Verily with the dhikr of Allah does the heart find rest.

Congratulations sis! And alhamdulillaah, you took it that one step further and have completed the true path of Islam. & no offence taken, I love hearing stories like this :)
I encourage you to keep reading the Qur'an, know your ahadeeth, do lots and lots of dua and above all, always have Ahlul Bayt (a) as your true role models. Coming up to shahr Ramadhaan, I would start fasting on weekdays and increasing the times you do Salatul Layl per week. It's important to get into the 'mode' so that the month goes nice and smoothly. It's even a good idea to start planning the certain aamal (deeds) you want to do on special nights during Shahr Ramadhaan like Laylatul Qadr. If you need any help, give us a shout inshaa'Allah!
Good luck! :)

One regret, dear world,
That I am determined not to have
When I am lying on my deathbed
Is that
I did not kiss you enough.

Alaikum salam

Awsome stroy sis. I wish u the best.

The one thing about Shahr Ramadhan...NO MORE TARAWIH PRAYERS, as shia dont do this (Umar's Practice).

Also it is appropriate  when saying Ramadhan, to always say Shahr ar-Ramadhan (Month of Ramadham) instead of just ramadhan.  :)

It isn't obligatory, per se. It's just good akhlaq according to the teachings of the Ahlulbayt (as).

Congratulations for following the school of Ahlul Bayt. Also, welcome to ShiaChat.

I seconded the suggestion by the Brother who asked you to read about the Ahlul Bayt. This should be the start of your journey.

Take it step by step, because if you take it all at once it can be very overwhelming.

Assalamu alaikum truthseeking, I'm glad you feel happier with your new faith but don't judge any faith from the people who claim to follow it, as you changed your faith because of the treatment of your people of faith. One day if you're annoyed by shias, will you change your faith once again?

As salam alaikum.

I think u misunderstood Ibn Adam.. i didnt become muslim because of what christians did to me... christians didnt hurt me. I became muslim because i waas and still am convinced that islam is the right path for me and my life.   And i became shia because i see more logica and truth in shia islam than sunni islam.  Your question are kind of rude to be honest but i guess u dnt mean it in such a manner. Alhamdulillah Allah gives islam, who throws it away is at loss..this i know for sure.

I perceived that from the following lines of yours:

Quote

To cut the story short, i was sunni muslim for 8 years, faced many problems with different levels of sunni muslims but after years of sorrow and facing rigid abuse from being prevented from going to masjid, house arrest for 2.5 years and verbal and mental abuse at the hands of people who preached islam but didnt follow. ......after thought and tears reading a few simple books and watching the agression around me from the hands of the people who say they follow the Sunnah of Rasool Allah pbuh.. i decided that i no longer wanted to be the sunni person i had been for 8 yrs...and embraced shia islam.
Now, didn't you judge Sunni Islam by the attitude of sunnis around you?

If you read and understand Arabic try to get your hands on a book by the name of "Mafateeh ul Jinan". It has a list of a'maal for the Month of Ramadan including dua's for each specific day of the month (short) as well as the deeds for the different days. It also has the larger duas and a'maal for the Nights of Power.

As a side note, I was once told that one should say Shahr Ramadan rather than just Ramadan because Ramadan is a name or description attributed to Allah ÓÈÍÇäå æÊÚÇáì, though I'm not sure about this at all. Any input would be nice.

No i didnt judge Sunni islam by the people around me.. i judged the people by the teaching of sunni islam.. there is a huge difference. People dont make the sect...its the teachings that make the sect.  Sunni islam says for example take care of ur wife ..so what i exspected was just that..but i what i was dealt with was being treated by the nafs of the wider community and intow my rights were removed from me...there for the people werent living their sunni islamic life as taught by the books.

However in saying what i have.. i can say sorry to anyone who i may have hurt here or offline..i cant raise my head with pride knowing that if ive done something wrong i may not go to paradise. AsghfirAllah.

Yes, I believe there is a hadeeth on this. The proper way is to use Shahr Ramadhan or the Holy Month of Ramadhan.

As salam alaikum ukhti.

BarakAllah feech ameen.  I didnt say anything because i dnt want to cause problems here in the forum. This persons words hurt me..i called a shia friend of mine who was born shia and i asked them if  what i wrote made sense ( i read it to them word for word) and if i was being rude or unreal according to shia rules, i was told im not being rude or unreal... i dnt know why there is soo much hate. i write whats in my heart and from my life experiances which i thank Allah for even if they have been very hard..alhamdulillah.

Being a new shia reminds me of the day i was a new muslim...a blank page with a thousand of questions..i dnt want to disturb people in my asking or annoy people at all.

Thank you for supporting me.
Allahu Akbar, Alhamdulillah, SubhanAllah. Verily with the dhikr of Allah does the heart find rest.
