Salam,

I have come across on numerous sites a book called "250 Signs" which i believe is attributed to Ayatollah Muhammad Ali Tabatabai.

Does anyone have the book in english?

If not, can someone confirm when the book was written and by whom?

There is a narration attributed to this book as follows:

From Rasulollah (pbuhaf):
Hijaz (Saudi Arabia) will be ruled by a man whose name is the name of an animal, when you see him from a distance, you would think he has a lazy eye, and if you get close to him, you do not see anything (wrong) in his eyes. He will be succeeded by a brother of his, named Abdullah. Woe to our Shia (followers) from him! Woe to our Shia (followers) from him! Woe to our Shia (followers) from him! - he repeated it three times - Give me the good news of his death, and I shall give you the good news of the appearance of the hujjah (Imam Mahdi).
Reference: Two Hundred and Fifty Signs, sign number 122

Any information on this book will help clarify how reliable are the narrations attributed to it, if they exist.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can assist.

(salam)
Not too sure about the book entirely but the hadith above is correct.

And it was not [possible] for this Qur'an to be produced by other than God , but [it is] a confirmation of what was before it and a detailed explanation of the [former] Scripture, about which there is no doubt, from the Lord of the worlds.

Or do they say [about the Prophet], "He invented it?" Say, "Then bring forth a verse like it and call upon [for assistance] whomever you can besides God , if you should be truthful."

- Surat Yunus Ayat 37-38

From what I understand the above book (which is a recent work, not an ancient one) is the only place this narration can be found and it claims it comes from Musnad Ahmad.  However apparently such a hadith is not to be found within said Musnad.  It is not found in our own books.

Your feedback is much appreciated. I actually saw the link posted above before posing this question on this site, because i wanted to learn more about it. (anyone who has not visited the above link SHOULD do, amazing information from a brother Sayid Haamid, may Allah bless him).

The brother analyses the hadith as follows:

This is a Sunni narration. The author of the book copied it from Musnad Ahmad Ibn Hanbal - but now it cannot be found in Musnad Ahmad.

Some have argued that since the author of the 250 Signs book is a very reliable scholar, then the hadith must have been dropped from the new prints of Musnad Ahmad due to influence from the Saudis.

Others say the hadith does not exist - so it's false.

This can be checked if someone has a very very old copy of Musnad Ahmad - perhaps an ancient copy in a library.

Some have argued that since it was written before these kings existed, then the hadith MUST be authentic because it has spoken of future events which seem to have come true.

So if we could figure out when Ayatollah Muhammad Ali Tabatabai wrote this book, it would help show the autenticity. Also i imagine if this hadith really was in Musnad Ahmad bin Hanbal and has been removed, then that would have happened recently, ie max 100 years ago. Surely the shia libraries would have old copies of the Musnad.

Or maybe someone on this site knows the Ayatollah personally, i did a search and can see he gave an interview to SC in 2003, and that he was born around 1940, and he based in London. So his own words on the matter would be quite useful.

The precise nature of this hadith is too amazing to pass by without thorough investigation.

the hadeeth is referring to king Abdullah and he's 87 years old today .. His death is near = )

but i'm not sure if it's THAT king .. it might be another king named Abdullah

from what i have heard , they failed to find another successor that will take his place

(salam)

i want to revive this thread since there is unconfirmed report coming from riyadh and jeddah that the king of saudi arabia is dead and there is high tension in saudi arabia and state of hightened alert.

please,it would be of great help and use if someone can present to us an old copy of Musnad Ahmad (before the rule of Al-Saud) containing the stated hadith in the OP.

Jazakum Allah Khair!

Ghaibat Tusi:
It is narrated from Fazl from Uthman bin Isa from Darastfrom Ammar bin Marwan from Abu Basir that he said: I heard Imam Ja’far Sadiq(a.s.) say:

“I am prepared to guarantee Imam Qaim to one who guarantees the deathof Abdullah; because after the death of Abdullah, the Muslims will not have consensus on any one person and this matter will not end except with your Imam. If Allah wills, the kingdom running into years will end and the kingdom running into days and months will begin.”

I (the narrator) asked: “Would this matter be prolonged?”

He replied: “Definitely not.

----------------------------

It is narrated from Kaabul Ahbar that he said:

“When the one whose name begins with Ain [A’] from Bani Abbas comes to the throne; that is Abdullah, then this rule will begin with a person named Abdullah and end with a person named Abdullah. He will be the key to calamities and the sword of annihilation. When his announcement will beread in the evening, that: From the slave of Allah, Abdullah, the chief of believers, to the people of Syria: Know that you will immediately come to know it is being announced from the pulpit of Egypt: From the slave of Allah,Abdullah, the chief of believers, to the people of Egypt…

It is mentioned in another tradition that the rule of Bani Abbas will continue till you will get information that this announcement had been readout in Egypt that: From the slave of Allah, Abdullah, the chief of believers, to the people of Egypt…When this happens, it will be the time of the decline of the kingdom of Bani Abbas. When this announcement is made by Bani Abbas in the morning, in the name of Abdullah you should wait till this announcement is made in the evening, in the name of Abdur Rahman and the latter will attack Abdullah in the most cruel way.”

Here are the current saudi princes with names that start with 'A'

Abdul Ilah bin Abdulaziz
Abdul Rahmanbin Abdulaziz **********

Abdul RAHMAN bin abdulaziz?

he is the most senior full brother, and he feels cheated in regards to the throne, could he have anything to do with the death of the current Abdullah? better yet could he have been the one who ordered the assassination of prince nayef?!

from wiki:

Prince Abdul Rahman is considered to have been unhappy with the succession arrangement and Prince Nayef's appointment as Crown Prince. He is reported to express his concerns about the formation of the Allegiance Council in 2007. Although nearly all surviving sons of King Abdulaziz supported the new arrangement, only he expressed his protests about it. The reason for his protests was seen as the fact that he was next in age after then-Crown Prince Sultan. Because the new arrangement regarding succession is not based on seniority but on merits. Prince Salman who is his younger full brother and the referee in family disputes is reported to have met with Prince Abdul Rahman and told him to "shut up and get back to work".[6]
