Salam

I just wanted to know if you can perform ghusl e janabat in your bathtub.by that i mean filling it up with water then completely submerging yourself in it.i recently read something about 'kurr' water, and i am now confused.Thanks in advance.

No you are not allowed to soak n perform ghusl. You need to use the shower or a bucket n tumbler (the orthodox way). In other words, take a BATH. You might delve into this thought "during the olden days, were there any buckets n tumblers?" and if you deduce there weren't then you'd know there were streams and rivers which were bathing grounds.

In simple ideology - the word Ghusl means to take a bath and if you think that soaking in a tub constitutes as a bath, your'e welcome to try making ghusl at your own discretion.

r u sure? i remember being told one way of doing ghosl is to suddenly submerge your entire body under water.  so if a tub is big enough maybe it can be done oin it.

When I mentioned 'submerging myself in the water in the bathtub' i meant doing ghusl irtimasi. I became confused because i read that the place where you do ghusl must be 'kurr'?I dont understand.Thanks.

The following are general requirement for pure water.

16. Water, which fills a container whose length, breadth and depth are three and half spans each, is equal to a Kurr. Based on this, the volume of water will be 42.875 cubic span, though 36 cubic span is enough. To determine KURR by weight is not fre e from Ishkal.

17. If essential Najasat like urine, blood, or anything which has become najis, like a najis cloth, falls in Kurr Water and if the water acquires the smell, colour, or taste of that najasat, it becomes najis; but if it does not, then it is not najis.

52. When an essential najasat like blood and urine reaches water, and changes its smell, colour, or taste,it becomes najis even if it is Kurr or running water. Similarly, if the smell, colour, or taste of the water changes owing to a najasat which is outside it—for example, if a carcass, which is lying by the side of the water, causes a change in smell, the water will be deemed najis, as an obligatory precaution.

Ghusl irtimasi or submerging in water only if it is running water like a river or a bigger water body like a lake.

Swimming pools and bathtub water is najis due to the small amount of water and that water is not running even though if you open the tap and the drain.

In fact you should take a shower after swimming pool and bath tub purely for health reasons. Same goes for purity.

Btw if you are fasting, you can ot do ghusl irtimasi.

If you have to and there is not shower available, then still do not submerge your head in water. Rather pour water on your head using your hands.

I saw this just now and felt the need to respond, I'm not sure whether it would be irtimasi or not, best to contact a scholar and ask them

I think the most important parts are like this and in sequence as follows:

- Make the niyyah of ghusl.
- If its ghusl janabat then first you wash your private parts until clean and any other part of the body that needs to be cleaned of najasat. Then you clean your front and behind like when you excrete or urinate (astanja).
- Do gargles with water.
- Suction the water into your nostrils and release so that the inside of the nose is cleaned (don't suck it into your breath).
- Now pour water on your scalp and rinse the root of the hair gently. This is the time to use soap to clean any grease or anything less soluble in your hair or scalp. I also wash my ears and face thoroughly. Pour water again over your scalp. Let it run down over your body. Repeat for a third time.
- Now move down to the neck, throat and shoulders. They should be washed by clean water at least once.
- Wash your torso. Bathe like you do but start from the right side. The upper and right side get priority and you clean the upper area of your body before the lower because the water from upper washes down to the lower parts.
- After torso move down to the legs. Right leg first, up from thigh down to the toes. Wash what is in the middle of both legs while washing the right leg. Then the left leg. That's it. Some people recite kalma shahadat after this.
- You should bathe thoroughly enough so that there should be no dry place left on your body, not even the size of a hair.

Congratulations, you're clean again. That was the obligatory part. Mustahab ghusl is to also do ablutions with the obligatory. Now put on some perfume (sunnah), talcum powder, or whatever gives you more freshness and joy. And wear clean clothes.^^^

I think if the water in the pool or bathtub exceeds a certain volume (I believe it is 377L) then it is considered pure water (not najis) and you can do ghusl in it.

Somebody correct me if I am wrong.
