Salaam SIsters,
In my country, Indonesia, many Shi'i women wearing hijab but do not wear socks and even wearing high heel shoes.
Most f them even talk big about how deep is their love and their faith the Ahlulbayt but not even covering their bosom and feet.
It is so frustrating for me to see that. Please share your thoughts dear sisters.

Salam,
Hmm. Maybe they don't know they have to cover their feet infront of na-mahram? Tell them, just incase they don't know.
However if you already have or you know that they know just leave them to it. Just aim to perfect yourself :)

There isn't only one view on this.  According to some, keeping the feet uncovered is permissible.  Not saying that the women who are doing that there are aware of this and thus doing so, but with there being a difference of views on this matter it would be best not to judge against those who do not practice it, as one would not judge against a woman not covering her face even though some of our jurists have said she must as well.

I don't wear socks. I don;t see why we have to.. If you're not showing any skin above your ankle I think it should be okay..

i have a few things to say about this. Firstly, i dont think we should judge anyone, we are all doing something wrong which according to some person is "non-sensical" and completely unjustified, depending on their individual level of faith
For example if you were to say to Sayed Sistani(hypothetically speking) lets go hang out at the local restaurant or watch a movie etc, he would look at you funny and be appaulled by the behaviour of todays Shia(living in the west that is) however we do these western practises
and they do have influence in all aspects of our life, we already always feel overdressed and just "too uptight" so why not let loose a little, why not let this and that go, why not divide and break up, why not, and then it becomes our modified version of Islam, there is no unity, only arguments about whos right whos wrong, and plenty of judgement and condemnation to go with it

We all go through phases, and we are all at different levels of Iman, faith and understanding etc

Secondly in regards directly to the question, whether you believe it/know it or not, there is people with all sorts of fetishes, and they are very common, just google and see for your self statistics, i dont think i need to mention that some are quiet perverise, so these simpe and common ones should not suprise you at all

There are men and woman who are aroused by feet of men or women or maybe hands of man or woman, or could be something else which you are oblivious to, more so common amongst men/lesbians towards women, and furthermore when you are covered most of the part of your body(Islamical dress), with just those "neuteral" parts "casually exposed" you could be in fact enticing some particular people even more then had it been a women
at a beach in a bikini, or man, both ways it goes, just because we dont perceive the effetcs our action or non actions are having, does not make us innocent and guilt free, because had we known how each of our actions or non actions cause ripples in society or in individuals, we would be very careful of what we do and say and dress

So i feel, that it is probably more appropriate when a women is covered by clothing which is non revealing. Besides i always think its rather strange when you see a lady at the mosque with a full covering, yet her feet sticking out like a sore thumb at a Masjid or somewhere sociable, in fact it is always more notecable in such circumstances, because it look really mis matched stands outespecially that usally hijabs are worn very dark, and skin colour usually tends to be much lighter then the tame clohtes resulting in these feet sticking out and been very notecable

but anyway thats my opinion
"You are the lofty Lord and I am the humble slave, and how great difference there is between us."

Salaam,
Thank you very much sisters and brothers for your opinion and thoughts of my question.
I really enjoy reading all...Yukapuka especially.
It is true that we should not judge people on this matter or on any other issue, however we should have a clear opinion for ourselves which is right and which is wrong, right?
I am just sad (not being judgmental) that those people I mentioned are aware of the necessity of wearing socks yet they let their feet uncovered. And when I talked to one or two of them, one made a foolish excuse, while the other one admitted that she's wrong but doesn't feel like doing it yet. How sad...
Oh well... :-)
Anyway, thanks for the nice chat....

Fi amanillah...

Its the same in my country. People might even accept head covering but they simply cant digest the idea of covering feet as being mandatory.
Although you should not judge people...some hijabis might just be ignorant about the ruling or some might be in the process of perfecting their hijab. Everyone works at their own pace and should be given the freedom and time to do so...Posted Image. Its ok as long as they keep on trying....so dont feel frustrated.

Can you cite the marjas that allow the feet to be uncovered. I was under the impression that based on narrations from Bibi FatimaPosted Image...shia jurists make it mandatory.

make print outs and hand out at the local masajid. sometimes misinformation/lack of knowledge is the cause of it.

Imam Husain (a) replied to a man who said, 'Sit down so we can debate about religion' – 'I am aware of my religion, and my path is clear for me. So, if you are ignorant about your religion then go and seek it. What do I have to do with disputation? Indeed the devil tempts a person and calls him, saying, 'Debate with people regarding their religion so that they do not think of you as incapable and ignorant.'

I was under the understanding that you should wear socks to pray, just because its more...respectful, as feet get dirty and sweaty and what have you. Its sounds like a cultural/environmental call though. I wear socks pretty much all the time as my feet are cold, even in summer (!)
