(salam)  All,

I need help.

Can we use herbal remedy that has alcohol? I mean a herbal remedy that require we to drink/take it (not for external use)

For example like this herbal ticture, but it contains alcohol:

http://www.avogel.co...stlecomplex.php

Milk Thistle Complex
50ml
£ 8.92
100ml
£ 15.73
60 Tablets
£ 10.03
A.Vogel
Milk Thistle Complex

In Milk Thistle Complex Alfred Vogel brings the seeds of this very [Edited Out]ly plant together with four other important herbs - Dandelion, Artichoke, Peppermint and Boldo - whose beneficial effects have been known for centuries.

For more information on medicinal herbs please visit the website, Herbs for Healthy Living.

Tincture Ingredients:
Contains the tinctures of fresh Cynara scolymus* (Artichoke) leaves 46%, Silybum marianum (Milk Thistle) dried fruit 32%, fresh Taraxacum officinalis* (Dandelion) herb and root 12%, Peumus boldus (Boldo) dried leaf 7% and fresh Mentha piperita* (Peppermint) leaves 3%.
Alcohol content: 62% v/v
* Organically grown.

This is just an example.... because if you click on the website link, it has tablet that I can take as an alternative. There's another herbal tincture like this that I want to use but does not have tablet option.

Please advise.

Thanks.

Without a doubt it is najis mutlaqan even if it's diluted the presence of alcohol makes the whole thing impure

WA wr wb.

Hmm...milk thistle as a liver tonic and then you want to put alcohol back into your system? How strange. You can opt out and just get the loose herbs individually.

The answer to this question is a bit more complex, u should refer or write directly to your marja on this one... there is one, the issue if alternatives are available that would be just as effective, and two, the kind of alcohol used (if can be used to get intoxicated, or used only for medicinal purposes... ) This has been discussed before on Shia Chat - if u do a search ...

btw, in most parts of the world that uses herbal medicine, they make a tea out of the herb (infusion) and don't use alcohol tinctures that is mostly used in north american (and european?) herbal medicine ...  there are tonics (mostly digestives) that use substantial amounts of alcohol ... but u really don't need that level of a mixture to improve digestion... (if not serious, and u are using it as a tonic, mint tea will generally do the trick) ... IF a chronic digestion problem etc. and mint tea does not work, then u fall into the are there alternatives, and if not, then generally u can take the tincture (again check with your marja' on this one)

Salam alycome

InshaAllah try and get them in a herbal capsule instead of the tincture, the reason they make them in alcohol is because the herb gets leaches in a larger dose. If there are anything related to herbs feel free to ask me i am a herbal student I use herbs but i refuse to take the tincture they soak the herb in vodka.  you can take pill, or drink it as a tea some can be made into a cream.
