Girl, 14, forced to be prostitute in Greater Manchester

A 14-year-old was forced into prostitution and sexually abused by a series of men after going missing from her home in Greater Manchester.

Nine men were convicted in connection with the abuse, which took place in February and March 2008.

The girl, described as vulnerable, was "used as a commodity" for sexual activity with the men, police said.

Supt Paul Savill, of Greater Manchester Police (GMP), said she had been through an "absolutely horrifying ordeal".

Police said the girl, who first went missing on 16 February 2008, had been abused by a number of different men "as she went from one vulnerable situation to another".

In each case the men identified her vulnerability to take advantage of her.

In a statement issued following the convictions, the girl said: "These people exploit young girls, introduce them to prostitution, feed them drugs and alcohol and tell them they love them.

'Changed my life'
"I know this because it has happened to me and it has changed my life enormously.

"I just hope that people will be more aware of this now and will be able to prevent this from happening to other vulnerable young girls."

Over a series of separate hearings and trials, Manchester Crown Court heard how the girl was first picked up in Rochdale town centre by Asad Hassan.

He took her to a nightclub where she was plied with drink and taken to a flat along with two other men, Basharat Mohammed and Mohammed Atif, who all later sexually exploited her.

A few days later she travelled to Manchester where she met another man, Aftab Khan, who also plied her with alcohol and drugs before ordering her to work as a prostitute.

Over the next 10 days she was forced to have sex with a number of men for money, before flagging down a couple in the street and begging them for help.

Supt Savill said the level of abuse the girl had suffered was "almost beyond belief".

"She has been treated like a commodity: beaten, threatened and sexually exploited.

"These men took advantage of her vulnerability with no regard for her wellbeing.

"I commend this young girl for her bravery in supporting this case. Even after her ordeal she was able to revisit the sites where she was abused and testify against her abusers in court."

'Nightmare experience'
The girl's parents added: "We are very proud of our daughter for her courage in assisting Greater Manchester Police with the prosecution of these abusers who caused her such terrible harm.

"No family should have to endure a nightmare experience like the one we have been through.

"We support our daughter in hoping that these successful prosecutions will send a message that will help protect other children."

Nine men convicted at Manchester Crown Court in connection with the abuse were:

Aftab Khan, 31, of Tarporley Avenue, Fallowfield pleaded guilty to one count of controlling a child prostitute and one count of sexual activity with a child. He was sentenced to nine years in prison. This was later reduced to seven years on appeal
Abid Khaliq, 30, of Shrewsbury Street, Stretford was sentenced to eight months in prison after admitting perverting the course of justice
Noorzai Ahmed, 29, of Royce Court, Hulme was sentenced to four years in prison after he was found guilty of paying for the sexual services of a child
Mohammed Anwar Safi, 29, of no fixed address, was sentenced to 31 months in prison after admitting paying for the sexual services of a child
Mohammed Khan, 26, of Royce Court, Hulme was sentenced to four years in prison after he was found guilty of facilitating child prostitution
Najibullah Safi, 33, of Reabrook Avenue, West Gorton was sentenced to two years in prison after admitting to sexual activity with a child
Asad Yousaf Hassa, 28, of Rivington Street, Rochdale was sentenced to two years in prison after admitting two counts of sexual activity with a child
Mohammed Basharat, 28, of Prospect Street, Rochdale was sentenced to two years in prison after he pleaded guilty to sexual activity with a child under 16
Mohammed Atif, 29, of Rivington Street, Rochdale was sentenced to two years in prison after admitting to sexual activity with a child

The likes of the BNP are going to be all over this. It reinforces all the propaganda they have been spreading about Muslim men in Britain.
And they serve beside Allah what can neither harm them nor profit them, and they say: These are our intercessors with Allah. Say: Do you (presume to) inform Allah of what He knows not in the heavens and the earth? Glory be to Him, and supremely exalted is He above what they set up (with Him). [Qur'an 10:18, Shakir translation]

Now, surely, sincere obedience is due to Allah (alone) and (as for) those who take guardians besides Him, (saying), We do not serve them save that they may make us nearer to Allah, surely Allah will judge between them in that in which they differ; surely Allah does not guide him aright who is a liar, ungrateful. [Qur'an 39:3, Shakir translation]

Not that she deserved to be abused, that is obviously wrong. But this 14 year old was out partying with grown men, letting them pick her up off the street to be taken to night clubs... and the parents are proud of her?

You do realize a 14 year old is hardly a child... do you know how many women marry at age 14 and even younger even in Shia countries/areas?

Any ways these guys are scum bags, may Allah punish them accordingly.

This young girl was adopted by foster parents as a child. She obviously had problems in life, and was taken in care after going off the rails a bit. A vulnerable young person should be helped, instead of being plied with drink and drugs and forced into prostitution. Her foster parents are probably proud she managed to turn her life around and was brave to go to trial and face nasty questions in the witness stand, and have to relieve some of those events to get these criminals convicted.

You do realize 16 is the age of consent in the UK, and no doubt the abusers were aware of that also, so that makes them paedophiles.

Really regardless of her age, 14 or 24 or 40 this person was abused and not treated as a human. The comment about the 14 year olds in shia countries is not very hmmmmm........ask those girls if they are happy with their situations.

Its a different culture that you would not understand. Actually even in the United States, if you go back 70 years or so it wasn't that uncommon for people to get married at a young age 15 or so. In my grandmothers generation it was very conman for women to get married at around age 13 or so, and they were happy about it as well, this is still conman in many Muslim countries, and 90% have no problem with it.

Rochdale grooming trial: Nine found guilty of child sex charges

Posted Image

Nine men have been convicted of being part of a child sexual exploitation ring in Greater Manchester.

The men, from Rochdale and Oldham, "groomed" girls, one as young as 13.

Liverpool Crown Court heard the men plied their victims with drink and drugs so they could "pass them around" and use them for sex.

The case, involving Asian defendants and white victims, sparked protests by far-right groups but police insist the grooming was not "racially motivated".

The offences which centred on Heywood included rape, trafficking girls for sex and conspiracy to engage in sexual activity with a child.

Two of the defendants on trial, Qamar Shazad and Liaquat Shah both of Rochdale, were acquitted and walked free from court.

The court was told that the abuse, which began in 2008, took place at two takeaways in the town involving a group of men aged between 24 and 59. The takeaways are now under new management.

A failed police investigation in 2008 allowed the abuse to go undetected for another two years.

The oldest defendant, a 59-year-old man from Oldham was found guilty on all counts but cannot be identified for legal reasons.

Some of the girls were beaten and forced to have sex with "several men in a day, several times a week", the jury was told.

One teenager told the jury she was forced to have sex with 20 men in one night.

Another recalled being raped by two men while she was "so drunk she was vomiting over the side of the bed".

This seems to be a serious problem. If anyone deserved to be 'honour killed', it's these guys.

What the hell is wrong with some people...They should all be castrated publicly with no anesthesia...!!!

"Those who worship God for the hope of gaining, they are not real worshipers, they are merchants. Those who worship God out of fear (of punishment), they are slaves. And those who worship God to be grateful towards their creator, they are the free people, and their worship is a real one." - Imam Hussain ibn Ali (AS)

Okay, firstly may I echo some of the comments above by saying those men are disgraceful and deserve what coming to them. In the UK this has elicted many reactions - some of them positive and some of them rather dubious.

For example, the media has implied that this is a race issue and that the Pakistani men were explicity looking for "white girls" to corrupt...Well I was brought up in a high asian area and I can honestly say that men like these go for any girl that is available (there were a couple of asian girls at school that obliged, they were the ones that were allowed to stay out late etc) it is all about which girl is available and most asian girls are not allowed out at night.

Another thing that has irked me is that notion that somehow the "Pakistani community needs to get its house in order" What?! So somehow all of us (Muslims is what I really think they mean) is responsible for what these men do?! When Ian Huntley paedophile and child killer murdered two small children was all of the country responsible?! Should they get their house in order!

Sorry about the rant

I know several women and children who have been sexually abused.
The innocent ones are usually too emberassed to come forth.
The women who usually get away with things will not let anyone get away with anything. But that is only my oppinion based on what I have observed by eyes, ears etc. But that is great if a woman is innocent and has the guts to tell others what happened to her and not feel more humiliation about it. I am a woman who have had several women tell me they were sexually abused and explained their storries to me and I felt sorry for each and every one of them even when I knew they were not raped.
I think the real problem is people do not raise their children right. And I disagree with parents forcing their children to play the young child role just to satisfy their needs to keep their adult children babies forever. If a young man  or woman goes through puberty and acts like an adult with people who are not their parents then they parents should treat them like an adult because God knows better than us if God did not want a girl to be a woman yet he would not have allowed her to get her period and breast to go with it. Also when parents let their sons do whatever they want and never give them rules or descent punnishments those boys will grow up thinking they can have whatever they want and refuse to follow rules. That is the format of a rape waiting to happen. ( in my oppinion) but what do I know I am just a young woman who know alot of women who claimed they were sexually abused ?

I do feel really bad for orphans and people who loose their families or come from bad families they suffer so much.

These guys deserve the death penalty – I don’t think they should be deported to continue their evil ways on even more people in another country just because they were born there – evil here is evil there. I don’t think their attacks are racist as they probably went after the most available and vulnerable while they were sneaking around at night - and white girls are out at night.

Again, despite the enormity of the evil of these men, women are brought into question as to why they are available as victims in this, and hence hold responsibility for their injury. You will find marginalized children and women all over the world who are targeted like this; they are often victimized three times. First by the painful lack of family and/or community and/or extreme poverty that leads to the situation they were in, second by the men who repeatedly injure and rape them till they are damaged beyond repair, and then by the armchair judges with so little personal restraint they can’t help themselves to spew their view on these hapless souls, while calmly sipping their chai, derailing and hence minimizing the crimes committed.

Muslims of all stripes need to speak out against the behavior of these men and how it is totally against the teachings of Islam because as indignant as we are about these men being labeled “Muslim”, it needs to be clear where we stand on this to the multicultural population so they are not confused or mislead by anti-Muslim propaganda.  We need to be pro-active so we are not defending against.  but leading the call for justice.  A call for death penalty would be a good start.
