Most selected poems of 2009

I must say, the selection process was exciting with so many worthy poems.  However, Zahratul_Islam poetry stood out so well that he was his own competition, winning first and second place with the two poems, Promises and Brainwashed.

http://www.shiachat....72-brainwashed/

http://www.shiachat....72640-promises/

Third place goes to GothicShia on the strength of a poem written for a lost son, An Ode to Cuteness touched many hearts.

http://www.shiachat....de-to-cuteness/

There was a tie for 3rd place.  Malika's Call of Birds gives this poetry selection continuity with past selections.  No one can be surprised; Malika's poetry is always selected by the readers as some of ShiaChat's finest.

http://www.shiachat....-call-of-birds/

Congratulation to all the poets selected.  I feel that any one of them could represent ShiaChat's best.  My final note is that this selection does not do justice to all the fine poetry posted in 2009.  These poet's reward waits at the end of times.  That should be the recognition that we poets all seek.

I will create a new forum that shows all selections made.

Zahratul is a her

Congrats to all the winners, poetry is awesome, keep posting them up!

I really appreciate this but I can best express my feelings with the following analogy: Gore winning the Peace Prize. Exciting? Absofregginlutely. Deserved? Erm.

I mean I don't want to throw Baradar under the figurative bus, but he has gone so far as to tell me he thinks poetry is "gay" so I have a sneaking suspicion that he only voted for me because he is a baller and the dearest of brothers

Its all the politics of this place! But I won't be too negative about it because it was awesome and gave exposure to some really excellent work (that and people who act too humble just sound insincere and annoying). I have not been posting lately but I have been going through some really inspirational suggestions.. y'all are so talented   Thanks for doing this Spriglief, you are really essential to this forum.

And thanks for clearing up the gender confusion Bonafide.

Just to clarify: I still think poetry is gay. But that doesn't apply to your poetry.

Congratulations on a deserved victory.

Yafatimaalzarha, this forum was doing fine before my arrival and will do fine on my departure.  My contribution is small... just one of many poets here at ShiaChat.  I am just glad to be counted among their number.

Spriglief, you're contribution is not small. In fact you contribute the most to the poetry forum. Without your criticism where would we be?
Really, if I were to post a poem on this forum I would be honoured if you would comment on it. You're just professional like that :)

And.. does that mean you're intending on leaving?

Spriglief is a middle-aged American white man with a military background who posts on an Islamic website.

Just thought I would make a note of that.

Well I needn't think you should have mentioned that - but now that you have 'noted it' I think it has nothing to do with anything - maybe we could have your bio and we can look at your notes - hopefully it can be a bit more detailed birth to current

(salam)
Congratulations to Sis Zahratul_Islam and Gothic Shia for a well deserved victory. I’ve read both of yours poems. They are wonderful, full of feeling. I don’t know how you people do it. I can’t write a single like of poetry. Please continue posting your poetry here.

And thank you to Spriglief and Batool for organizing this terrific competition. Very nicely done.

One of the best of the ShiaChat poets, my first pick is Eshan’s:

“The Abandoned Path.”

O you the moon of night
the mystery of the universe
the seal to paradise
the abandoned path

You are the ocean of wisdom
love is your disciple
you, inspiring courage
embodied true justice

Your soul is a masterpiece
a portrait of perfection
your name is on all lips
but few realize its meaning

You are God's living name
the talking Quran
angels kissed your footsteps
but the humans treaded on you

The 19:th came the sword
from the enemy's posioned hatred
but for 29 years your heart ached
from your friends false love

O Ali, you are our pride
but alas that we are your shame...

I hid my unexpressed letters
Within the cache of my heart.

Very good

there's an idiot in the village
he's singing about the end of the world
i've never known him to lie
but it's just way too early
to die
