the ccauses are different. in the case I explained it is more the matter of difficulty of the earlier one's in pronounciation. but in the one you sait it is the matter of Arabic influence on Farsi (PArsi) pronounciations. they didnt have P you know.

It is transliterated as "dehem" or "daham", whichever you prefer.

Are you having trouble in reading the text or understanding it?

It is 18th century Farsi as written in the Indian Subcontinent. Maybe that's why it is hard for you understand? The style of writing this script [by default font] is different from what I have seen in Farsi books. It is more Arabic like. So maybe that's why?

I had trouble finding its rhythm, and also its meaning. I get it now.
The "font" IS a bit different, but not so much as to make it unreadable. That was just my bad...

Ahh I see. I suspected you were mistaking the consonant "B" for "H".

The font also isn't the way we write in Urdu. But it is easily readable if Urdu and Farsi are written in Arabic-looking font. Because most of us know how to read Arabic. So it helps.

lol yeah that's exactly what I was confusing it with, a B...which is really stupid cuz I write my Hs like that too!
Do you understand farsi poems just based on your knowledge of urdu? or have you studied farsi? I don't think I'd be able to understand an urdu poem even if it was written in an arabic looking font! It's hard enough understanding the farsi ones

I don't speak functional Farsi. Whatever of Farsi I have gathered is the outcome of my numerous visits to Iran and Farsi poetry readings with the help of dictionaries, translations and transliterations. I want to learn Farsi formally and systematically but haven't got a chance so far. Maybe some day. . .

For now, here is something from the legend that was Ghalib [at least in Urdu, LOL]

Hmmm. Awesome. The rhythm is arresting. The refrain [radeef] and rhyme [qafiyah] are melodious. It feels good when you recite it on the lips.

That is actually Hafez's poem, maybe Iqbal Lahori quoted him (which has a deep meaning btw).
