"O God, I do not worship You out of fear of the hell-fire because this would be the worship of a slave. Nor do I worship You out of desire for the pleasures of paradise because this would be the worship of a merchant. Rather I worship You because You are worthy of worship."

only went to the one last night. someone told me that the single womens workshop today was very good, very interactive... but she pretty much says everything is good. so who knows. dr sadiq kept mentioning how the parents and children workshops hadnt been included for some reason in this set of workshops and how important they were.
the lecture last night at least sparked interesting discussion. one guy (at least) thought dr. sadiq was pointing out only examples of how marital problems were the fault of the husband. funnily enough i agreed with him (just didnt voice it), but dr sadiq smiled in response and said that he didnt do that, and that he was talking about problems and the role of both members of the marriage. in discussions after the lecture with other participants, one guy said that its because the guy is usually at fault anyway
much of what he was saying was reassuring to hear from a muslim man with a fist long beard, quoting ayahs and hadiths, and some of it was to be expected. i honestly thought there would have been a bigger showing at the lecture *looks at shay*. i dont regret going at all. had a great time, ate two bits of chocolate cake and met a family friend from 15+ years ago!
oh yeah and dr sadiq explained the match making thing too. he said that each person fills in a form, stating their details and what theyre looking for, and based on this info, the dr/organisers may contact individuals that appear to match up on paper and ask them, with the consent of their guardians (or read decision makers), if they would like to meet up to speak to the other person. the glaring drawback of the system is for those who want to marry another "shia" the pickings were slim from what i could tell, on both sides of the camp. generally your pool of potential matches equals those who attended and filled in a form at the workshop/s. compared to other networks, it kind of makes the pickings slim either way. but i guess its worth a try for those wanting to get married.
ah another thing, the lecture was not really geared towards those who were single, but those who were married too, and their parents. so the relevant audience was not only single people looking for a spouse, it was pretty much everyone.
