(bismillah)

(salam)

Mods have recieved complaints about individuals who seek out personal details of members like phone numbers, places of work and residence etc. Then seek to use that information to embarass or otherwise harass people.

This is a VERY SERIOUS issue and could lead to disruptions in daily routines or even to PHYSICAL HARM. This is not an issue solely at ShiaChat.com but applies to ALL online activies. FEMALE MEMEBERS are specifically at risk from these individuals.

We urge members not to disclose their personal information in public, even if it is in a form of a question asked on a thread. There are a few general guidelines you can follow for your own safety:
  • Do not use your real name
  • Do not use your primary e-mail address
  • Do not disclose any contact telephone numbers
  • Do not disclose the location of your school, work, residence etc.
  • Take any other precaution for your safety that you feel is necessary
Choose your online friends wisely and always maitain modesty especially when conversing with the opposite gener. If you don't have a reason to converse, then there is no need to converse considering the person is a total stranger. Seeing as this is an Islamic site, the expectation is that members must maintain a level of modesty at all times. Many times stalkers will talk to people you know to gather bit and pieces of information that you have never disclosed to them directly. Anyone can save a chatlog, even a friend who means no harm can unknowingly disclose such information to individuals, who would abuse such information. Unless you know the person in real life and meet them in person, there is NO GOOD reason to disclose such details to them.

And last but not least I'd like to add that if someone is harassing you on ShiaChat.com: Contact the Mod team and disclose as much detail of what has happened as you can. If someone does start harassing you remember that cybersatlking is a criminal offence in many areas. NEVER delete any communication from a stalker. Save all emails/chat logs/IMs/PMs or telephone messages. EDUCATE yourself on the need for online privacy and the disruptive effects it can have on your life if you choose to trust the wrong people.

Remember if such a person is abusing your information, he will not hesitate to abuse others. You could be helping to prevent such an incident.

Thank You
Wassalam.

It's really freaky nowadays. A member here with multiple accounts (now banned) started spilling out random pieces of information about people in chat one day...

You can never be to careful when it comes to this stuff...:Hijabi:

Unfortunately we have someone (a female apparently) who is going around with multiple accounts coming on with various IPs and latest I heard is that they are also adding people on MSN pretending to be other sisters on the forum and then they get information off the guys or girls and may have even saved MSN conversations. So as I said please be careful as to who you talk to, respond to, add, give any sort of information out and when in the chat room please be careful as to what you say in the presence of others. Even if you don't say anything wrong, some people will just take things out of context and try to spread propaganda for the fun of it.

That's why this thread was made in the first place, so far some members are doing a good job in reporting to us what the accounts are of this person and I have dealt with every account that has been reported.

Wassalam.

Many members have been inquiring about some recent actions taken by the ShiaChat administration. We do not usually go into the details about the decisions we make or why we have banned certain people or brough certain changes to the site, but at this time on this thread we feel it would be appropriate to leave some important remarks.

We often get to know people online and appreciate their online persona. However, we have to remember that as long as we do not know a person in real life and do not have any real life communication with them, their personalities only exist on the internet, and their real lives may be very different from how they present themselves on the Internet.

It has come to our attention repeatedly over the past few years that certain members had been misrepresenting their real life online and had not been honest about other aspects of their life. At the same time, we take the privacy of our members very seriously and any sort of misconduct in terms of that will lead to a ban if we receive valid complaints and proofs regarding it. The forum administration does look into these issues very closely, some issues have been looked into for the past few years and due to the consistency of these complaints and reports, what ever decision the ShiaChat administration makes - which is a collective decision - is in the best interest of the members and the site itself.

Sincerely,
ShiaChat Admin staff
Wassalam

So they do a little bit of taqiyyah. Does that constitute a ban?

A Misconduct of that sort is another issue :Hijabi:
Ban threads not people.

The SC administration knows what they're doing. They know things you don't. And while it may seem 'unfair,' their ulterior motives present an extremely justified reason to execute every action that they do. So we shouldn't question them. Not in the least bit.

I just gotta say. Thank God for you guys. Keep up the good work.
