(salam)

Hey sisters hope your all doing fab! Ok so please forgive me but I'm here to learn and hope you can all put my mind to rest hehe!
We obviously all pray with a certain islamic attire like covering the hair and the body and the feet however if I am at home in my room and everybody is mahram to me in the house could I not pray without my hijab on?(not saying i will do it if i could but..) Is hijab necessary for a women when she is performing salat in a segregated area?

Thank you sisters

Salaam sister :)
Noo it's not a silly question at all :)

Well, while praying, we must perform hijab [i think] for the respect, and to be presentable in front of Allah (s.w.t).

But i think the simple answer is: yes, we have to. Although, i don't know the exact reason, but from how i see it, it's the presentation in front of God :)

Salaam :)
Avarice is disgrace; cowardice is a defect; poverty often disables an intelligent man from arguing his case; a poor man is a stranger in his own town; misfortune and helplessness are calamities; patience is a kind of bravery; to sever attachments with the wicked world is the greatest wealth; and piety is the best weapon of defense.

You can't pray without hijab. It's probably because you're meant to appear in the most respectful and obedient form in front of Allah.

yeh ur supposed to cover urself up when praying...
The most selfish one letter word: "I" Avoid it.
The most poisonous three letter word: "Ego"  Kill it.
The most pleasing five letter word: "Smile"  Keep it.
The fastest spreading six letter word: "Rumour"  Ignore it.
The hardest working seven letter word: "Success"  Achieve it.
The most enviable eight letter word: "Jealousy" Distance it.
The most essential ten letter word: "Confidence" Trust it.

U r allowed only to expose ur feet when u r doing salat and no non-mahram is there.

If there r non-mahrams then u shud cover ur feet also.

this is just speculation, but i have always thought that part of the reason we have to wear hijab when we pray is that, if we DIDN'T have to wear hijab then, then many women would never see a hijab in their lives... they ones who give up on hijab in their daily lives and live in cultures which do not practice the hijab would just live as muslims without the concept of hijab... but by being forced to cover 3-5 times a day, we are reminded that hijab is islamic and we are supposed to do hijab, and it is so important that our prayers are not accepted without it
Imam Husain (A) replied to a man who said, ‘Sit down so we can debate about religion’ – ‘I am aware of my religion, and my path is clear for me. So, if you are ignorant about your religion then go and seek it. What do I have to do with disputation? Indeed the devil tempts a person and calls him, saying, ‘Debate with people regarding their religion so that they do not think of you as incapable and ignorant.’ - Bihar al-Anwar

Don't quote me on this BUT, I've known that during salat the angels decend and bless your home, just as they do when you recite quran. However if a woman is not in hijjab the angels cannot enter the room because even they abide by the modesty rules. Second reason would be as stated above... hijjab is the most respectful and loved state for a woman to be in. So it would make sense that in this time of getting nearer to Allah (swt) that you approach the almighty in the manner he loves best.

(bismillah)

Assalam alaykum,

^I havent heard the above reason/s before eg angels not entering room but they sound beautiful.

Besides the spirituality side of things.. I think its practical. Most girls have long hair I know someone who was teaching her brother how to pray and did not wear her salat clothes. She had a long-ish pony tail and the way it would flick all of the place was annoying to say the least.

The Hijab seems to at least hold things together and help you concentrate more too.

yes we have to cover ourselves ...

this shows that when Allah, who created us wants us to cover in front of Him .. then how can we dare to go w/out hijab in front of na mahrams who are not at all related ...

Hmm, we're always infront of God 24/7 though and we can address him any time of the night or day without covering the head. So i still dont get why its necessary when no non mahrams are around.

Salam alaikum,

I like to use a big long chador when I pray and pull it up over so that it covers my face.  Then I feel like I'm in my own special room to talk to Allah ÓÈÍÇäå æÊÚÇáì.  It helps me to better shut out my surroundings and concentrate.  Now if they could make a sound proof chador, that would be great!

Ok this is a brother...

Salah means "connection", hence establishing the salah, means establishing connection with your Lord.

While you are making connection to your Lord, you have to present yourself in your full submission mode to your Lord (the complete Islam). Doing proper hijab is part of this submission to the Will of your Lord, hence you have to submit in this and in other things while you are performing salah, or making the connection. Just like doing wudhu, having proper attire for both males and females is also a prerequisite to make the formal 5 connections. Otherwise you are in front of your Lord the whole day and night 24/7 but you are not in wudhu etc. but still can make connection to him through dua. But for this formal connection, the 5 salah on 3 times, you have to don the proper attire and proper required prerequisites to make it formal and distinguished.

but thats like asking y do i have to go into ruku and sujood and hve precise movements for prayer when i can talk to Allah swt at anytime even when not in sujood. the whole point of salah is that on top of any dhikr/duas etc u do, there is a pre-ordained time for it and a pre-ordained set of words and actions and rules like having to do wudhu and having to be in hijab. there is wisdom in it all even when were nor sure what that might be. for example, i like to think of every "Allahu akbar" in my prayer as a reminder for me to concentrate back on my prayer so if my mind is wondering thinking about worldly things during salah, when im at the point of having to say "Allahu akbar", i think to myself, well "God is greater" ie greater than this trivial thing im thinking about...helping me to refocus back on my prayer. and i like to think of the sajda after salah (astgfarAllah Rabi wa atoobu ilayk) as my apology to Allah swt that my salah was not 100% perfect. essentially, what im trying to say is that the strict structure and rules behind salah (including covering urself as a female) all has an underlying wisdom. perhaps covering, like wudhu helps u to prepare mentally for salah and so that u need to make that extra effort to pray?
