Hello, I am new here and I am not muslim. I had a few questions about the Ayatollah Homeini.

1)I have read from Iranians sources that Ayatollah Homeini married a 10 year old girl when he was 28. Is this true? Or is it a lie? If its a lie, how old was his wife when he married her?

2)I found this paragraph from Homeini's work "tahrir al wasilah". I don't know arabic, so if somebody here could translate I would be grateful.

ãÓÃáÉ 12 : áÇ íÌæÒ æØÁ ÇáÒæÌÉ ÞÈá ÅßãÇá ÊÓÚ Óäíä ¡ ÏæÇãÇ ßÇä ÇáäßÇÍ Ãæ ãäÞØÚÇ ¡ æ ÃãÇ ÓÇÆÑ ÇáÇÓÊãÊÇÚÇÊ ßÇááãÓ ÈÔåæÉ æ ÇáÖã æ ÇáÊÝÎíÐ ÝáÇ ÈÃÓ ÈåÇ ÍÊì Ýì ÇáÑÖíÚÉ ¡ æ áæ æØÃåÇ ÞÈá ÇáÊÓÚ æ áã íÝÖåÇ áã íÊÑÊÈ Úáíå ÔìþÁ ÛíÑ ÇáÇËã Úáì ÇáÇÞæì ¡ æ Åä ÃÝÖÇåÇ ÈÃä ÌÚá ãÓáßì ÇáÈæá æ ÇáÍíÖ æÇÍÏÇ Ãæ ãÓáßì ÇáÍíÖ æ ÇáÛÇÆØ æÇÍÏÇ ÍÑã Úáíå æØÄåÇ ÃÈÏÇ áßä Úáì ÇáÇ꾯 Ýì ÇáÕæÑÉ ÇáËÇäíÉ ¡ æ Úáì Ãí ÍÇá áã ÊÎÑÌ Úä ÒæÌíÊå Úáì ÇáÇÞæì ¡ ÝíÌÑí ÚáíåÇ ÃÍßÇãåÇ ãä ÇáÊæÇÑË æ ÍÑãÉ ÇáÎÇãÓÉ æ ÍÑãÉ ÃÎÊåÇ ãÚåÇ æ ÛíÑåÇ ¡ æ íÌÈ Úáíå äÝÞÊåÇ ãÇÏÇãÊ ÍíÉ æ Åä ØáÞåÇ Èá æ Åä ÊÒæÌÊ ÈÚÏ ÇáØáÇÞ Úáì ÇáÇ꾯 ¡ Èá áÇ íÎáæ ãä ÞæÉ ¡ æ íÌÈ Úáíå ÏíÉ ÇáÇÝÖÇÁ ¡ æ åì ÏíÉ ÇáäÝÓ ¡ ÝÅÐÇ ßÇäÊ ÍÑÉ ÝáåÇ äÕÝ ÏíÉ ÇáÑÌá ãÖÇÝÇ Åáì ÇáãåÑ ÇáÐí ÇÓÊÍÞÊå ÈÇáÚÞÏ æ ÇáÏÎæá ¡ æ áæ ÏÎá ÈÒæÌÊå ÈÚÏ ÅßãÇá ÇáÊÓÚ ÝÃÝÖÇåÇ áã ÊÍÑã Úáíå æ áã ÊËÈÊ ÇáÏíÉ ¡ æ áßä ÇáÇ꾯 ÇáÇäÝÇÞ ÚáíåÇ ãÇÏÇãÊ ÍíÉ æ Åä ßÇä ÇáÇÞæì ÚÏã ÇáæÌæÈ .

3)I understand that the age of consent in Iran even today is 9 for girls (with parental permission). Is this true? If I am wrong, could you tell me what the age really is?

Thankyou.

O Allah! Include me among those who will help him, assist him, rally round him, and will, in no time, carry out his commands; and strictly follow his directions, out of love and reverance for him, and will try to overtake one another to serve his purpose and will pronounce the profession of faith in his presence. Age of marriage in Islam fr a woman is based on two factors:
1)Physical maturity (at a minimum, has started menstruation)
2)Mental/psychological maturity - this depends from woman to woman and from society to society

As for Iran, the minimum age was once nine, but no longer.  A speaker in Muharram was talking about this issue during Muharram as an example of the importance of the voice of the people in Islamic governance.  Apparenty the legislature in Iran, under pressure from NGO's, raised the age of marriage to 17, based on arguments of psychological maturity in a modern society.  There was no veto from the clerical establishment.  It is the law in Iran now, apparently.

17? I had heard 13.

I know a girl who recently got married in Iran when she was 16.  Hmmm...

"My Lord! My Lord! My Master! My Protector!
For which things would I complain to You and for which of them would I lament and weep?  For the pain and severity of chastisement?  Or for the length and period of tribulation?  So if you subject me to the punishments with Your enemies, gather me with the people of Your tribulation and separate me from Your friends and saints, then suppose my Llah, my Master, my Protector and My Lord, that I am able to endure Your Chastisement,

How can I endure separation from you?
And suppose that I am able to endure the heat of Your Fire,
How can I endure not gazing upon Your Generosity?  Or how can I dwell in the Fire while my hope is Your pardon?

So by Your Might, my Master and my Protector, I swear sincerely if You leave me with speech, I will lament before You from the midst of the Fire's inhabitants with the lamentation of the hopeful;

I will cry to You with the cry of those crying for help; I will weep before You with the weeping of the bereft; and I will call upon You,

'Where are You, O Sponsor of the belivers, O Goal of the hopes of Your knowers! O Aid of those who seek assistance, O friend of the hearts of the sincere, and O Allah of all the world's inhabitants!' "

~ Excerpt from Dua Kumayl.
Read it.  Every Thursday night.

yes, i also know of girls married at the age of 16, and mashallah many have their nikaah read in the Haram, so is that regarded as legal? i mean dont they need signatures from the authorities for the marraige cerificate?

I just read this. According to wikipedia, the age of marriage for boys is 15, girls is 13. Not sure how accurate wiki's source is though.

This is prob off topic but oddly enough here in Ontario the age of consenst (14) for sex is lower then the age for marriage(16 w/ parents permission). Apparently you're mature enough for intercourse, but not marriage... :wtw:

(salam)
(bismillah)

I've heard that the controversial quote that the enemies of Imaam Khomaini (ra) use from the book "Tahrir ol-Vasileh" was not actually in his original book. I don't know much about it beyond that.
