Thought i'd share thsi with you for Imam Al- Ridha wiladat:
Reasoning why Imam Rida AS has been known as Imam-e -gharib.
First just the fact that he was conffered with the office of wilayah which is a station of greatest proximity with Allah SWT sets him apart from the others who have immersed themselves in worldy pleasures and do not appreciate anyone who tries to remind them not to commit acts that would cause Allahs wrath upon them. All that they expect from this person is his kindness and mecy which of course he is full off because of the love of Allah (SWT) yet they do not appreciate his annoyance when they transgress God's limits and tend to hate him for the latter.
It's on this basis that the Prophets and awliya have always been strangers in this world, spending their lives as angels estranged from a tyrranical and oppressive society.
The particulars of Imam Ali Ridas estarngement are:
1. Becoming a victim of the diabolical strategems of Mamun al Rashid who had transferred Imam from Medina, the precincts of his grandfather Rasulullah SAWW to Marv which in reality was exile, captivity and imprisonment. Apparently he had granted power and princely status to the Hadrat while in reality he had deprived and divested him of all his functions, permitting him neither to give legal rulings nor to offer Friday prayers. By use of subtle mechanism he was able to even administer poison to the Imam while people thought he was treating him with kindness. Apparently he ahd given him comfort while in reality he had stopped him from bringing his family and dear son Mohammad Taqi AS.
Also after the martydom of his father, the 7th Imam, the followers and representatives of his father, instead of rallying to his support and submitting to his imamte refused to honor him and each of the major wakils had found for himself a title and personality and social status while spending money that belonged to teh Imam AS.
After his martydom, the representatives of Imam Musa la Kadhim declared that the Imamate had ended with him. Thats why they are called teh waqafiyyah. Rebelliously and with open hostility they rejected the proof of God Ali ibn Musa al Rida and rebutted him who was teh owner of teh office of wilayah. What solitude and estrangement could be greater?
Third was the denial of his son: Mohammad ibn Ali. This denial came not only from strangers but also from his kinsmen such as uncles and nephews who denied the imamate and wasiyyah of the apple of his eyes.
In al Kafi: ktabul Hujah this incident is reported in a tradition from Zakariya ibn yahya.
They said to him that there has never been an Imam amongst us with dark complexion!and Imam AS wept and told them that he was indeed his and had infact been foretold as being a great son of a bondswoman. But they insisted therefore he had to accept for a qafah to be brought (an expert on tracing partenity by looking at childs featrures) and Imam AS was dressed as a gardener and was not evn placed among those who were to be brought before the qafah but when the qafah saw him he said: that gardener must be the father for his feet and teh childs are identical!
In view of this incident isnt teh imam alone and estranged who has to suffer humiliation in introducing his own son to his relatives? his heart is broken and he breaks into tears and has to resign himself to teh judgement of teh qafah, something he does not approve of and which the messenger of God has forbidden.
One of the aspects of solitude and estrangement of the Imam Rida As is thatt he expounded fine and sublime themes as teh topic of his gnosis and tawhid and teh sacred divine essence which are reported in Uyun Akhbar al rida and otehr books, These traditions must be examined and studied and academies must be set up in our centres of religion for a precise analyssi and study. Unfrtunately, no one has underatken this study an the reality of their meanings lies hiddden and concealed from teh minds of teh semionary students. And this estrangement is greater than all his past estrangements, May God's blessings be upon him.
