I don't know what to do, I woke up late today for Fajr prayers    This is the first time it has happened in last 3 years   Most of the times I don't even need a clock, and other times, I have two backup alarms.

By the time I started the prayer, it was only 1 minute till sunrise by the time I finished prayer, it was sunrise time.

Somewhere I remember I read that you can't pray while sun is rising. I probably need to pray Fajr with Qadha intention. Does anyone know the ruling?

Is there anyway to make up for the late / lost Fajr prayer? I feel so bad, can't express it in words.

I always try to offer prayer on time and have almost gotten fired more than once for doing that, but I don't know what happened today.

Salam Alaykum.

I feel the same way when that happens.. as if I had done something wrong the pervious day. In a hadeeth it is mentioned that every Fajr prayer is worth a "bayt maal" or a house full of money.

Bro/sis Inbead, if you are praying fajr and have little time left, or are not exactly sure as to whether it would be qadaa' or wajib, make the intention of 'Rajaa' Almatloub.' That way you're praying fajr once, instead of wajib and qadaa' when you're unsure.

I don't have a source (maybe someone can help me out w/this??) but I've heard/read that as long as you began your prayer before time is up, the rest of your prayer (being while time is up) would not be considered as such.

Wassalam.

Salaam alaikum,

If you had time to perform one rakat before sunrise, then you would go ahead and pray as if you were praying on time. But if you didn't have time to pray one rakat, then you pray qada.

Sayid Seestani:

756. If the time at the disposal of a person is sufficient for performing one Rak'at only he should offer the prayers with the Niyyat of Ada, i.e. offering the same in time. However, one should not delay offering prayers intentionally.
