Will Dhul-Hijjah be 30 days this year? We don't know yet. Do you belong to a moonsighting group? Think about joining the Muslims where you live, to go out and look for the new crescent moon. The next new moon is on September 20, but sighting is expected on September 21. The Astronomical New Moon (conjunction) is on September 20, 2017 (Wednesday) at 5:30 UT. On September 20, the crescent may not be visible anywhere in the habited world. It may be seen with binoculars in Southern belt of North America, all Central America, and Northern parts of South America, however some Ulema do not allow sighting the crescent moon with an optical aid. On September 21, it will be easily visible almost everywhere in the world. Friday, September 22, 2017, will be the first day of the month of Muharram in North America. Ya Hussein AS. Condolences to one and all.
The Moon-Sighting Committee of the Council of Shia Muslim Scholars in North America announces that Thursday, September 21st, 2017 will be the last day of the month of Dhu al-Hijjah, 1438 A.H. and Friday, September 22nd, 2017, will be the first day of the month of Muharram, 1439 A.H. for the entire region of North America.
This determination is based on the fact that there were no verified sightings of the crescent moon by the naked eye at sunset on Wednesday, September 20th, 2017, in any region of North America.
We ask Allah, the Most High, for success in performing good deeds and hasten the Return of Our Master, Imam Mahdi (p).
